So now it's come full circle. Working on the rod's it has come to my attention that the rod bolts are the same as small journal. (11/32)
So the Main and Rod Journals on the crank are LARGE but the main cap bolts and and the rod bolts are SMALL.

The production guys in Van Nuys must have been party animals - note that the VIN stamp is upside down compared to the engine build code - guy should have checked his handle (orientation) flat before he stamped it; maybe he was in a rush to get out the door at the end of the shift.

I don't believe that is uncommon for LOS cars.
