67 T400 Identification - need help

I have an 05E 67 build. What could have been the earliest trans. build date I could use?
The assembly date code for the 1967 model year starts with the first day ( Jan. 01) of the calender year 1966 and continues into the 1967 calendar year. Example you add 365 + 97=462= build date (67A  462 - Apr.07 1967). Is this correct so far?
Now comes the confusing part. If the 1968 T400 started production on Jan. 01 1967 then is it possible to have a 68A  97 - Apr.07 1967/1968 and both be correct for the same installation?
This to me does not sound correct, so they could not have started production build dates on Jan.1, unless they ended the previous years production at the end of Dec.
Now the kicker.  I have seen build dates in the 370's, so much for 365 days in a year.
What have I over looked?

The information I was using in my earlier post was from Chevrolet by the numbers, it was incorrect, and caused my confusion.
The Julian build date code begins with the Juline date (day of the year) on which model-year production started, and the sequence then continues until the end of the model production.

Now to my original inquiry. 
What could have been the earliest trans. build date for a 67 BB 05E build?
On average there would only have been about 60 RPO M40's built per week so availability was not an issue.
Would the 05E build have the redesigned T400 pan and filter ?

The example givn here http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#trans is easy to follow, but I can't make mine add up.
It's stamped 68 E 222 in a 3rd week Dec '67 build L34.
Going by the example were the stamped number is greater than 366 [493] , you count up from Jan 1 by the number of days difference between 366 and the stamp [127].
Therefore, because mine is less than 366, i need to count back from Jan 1 by the number of days difference between 366 and 222 ?
But... thats 144 days, waaay before the build date of the car    What am I missing

In your case it is simple. Model year 1968, E used in HP Chevelle and Camaro, build date 222 August 1967, Thursday the 10th.
Now the interesting question . Why did your Aug,10th built trans. take 4 months to get it into your  12C or D engine dress? How many T400's did the Hydramatic division build per day for the Norwood plant? The plant was only on average installing 100 or so per week  given the production figures of 5,466.

http://www.camaros.org/numbers.shtml#Calendar calculates Julian dates for you. As Bob noted, 222 is Aug 10th.

The L34 TH400 application was unique and low production. I've seen other L34's with that same date, so I think it was just low consumption of stock by the plant.
Is your VIN on the trans? What's the serial # stamped on the trans tag?

There is no absolute earliest. It just needs to be before the end of May. Before 365+150=515 approximately.

Given your best guess  and the low production rate, any idea when the T400 pan and filter change took place?

Yes, simple to calculate, I was just expecting something closer to the body build, but as Kurt explains, they were low volume.

I tried that claculator some time ago and it was giving me all sorts of odd numbers - couldn't make head or tail of it, but it seems to be working fine now 
Serial of my trans is 1221. Can't find vin yet - pig of a thing to get at!! Is it on the vertical surface or the horizontal surface? How did they get the gang in that tight corner??

Vertical surface. Really hard to see with an exhaust system in place.

There is good picture of the two pans on page 271 in Chevrolet by the numbers. I also got my first explanation of assembly date codes from the book and it almost drove crazy. I confirmed the early pan last week on ebay as they had a T400 CD-67-34131  67D 371  Jan 6th and it looked to be original.
