67 SS HOOD SIT HIGH IN THE REAR
« on: November 12, 2009, 04:32:22 PM »
hello
my 67 is finally complete and im chasing gremlins! the ss(finned) hood sits high in the rear bye the cowl(3/8), the hood is problee after markit, and so are the hinge's, all the adjustment is used up on the hinge's, after closing you can push the hood down in the rear closer to being closed, I do know that the spring on the hinge's are non-ss 26 coil units.
my question is will changing to the ss hinge springs get the hood to close completely? and if so i need ideas on safe removal of the spring while the hinge's are still on the car?
thx scott

hinge's appear to be in excellant condition, if not new condition from the prev owner.
i do now  know how to change the springs with the washer trick from john z post.

If you did not adjust it the following way do so.  You have to pivot the hinge in order to bring the rear down. Loosen the hinge to fender bolts, open the hood and push up, pivoting the hinge. Now tighten the bolts. It can be done alone but is obviously easier with aid. It's standard hood alignment procedure. I just did a 70 Trans Am hood yesterday. Removing the springs is easy too. I have a tool for it but you can put a fan belt on it and pull it off. The tool is merely a chain with a hook. I've never use aftermarket hinges so I cannot attest to their quality. I don't have SS springs on mine and it closes fine.

thx for the help,i adjusted the hood in that way but it bottomed out on the hinge's slot so i thought the stiffer spring might pull the rear down?
look's like i will need to stretch the slot on the hinge for more adjustment!

Probably the cowl seal strip.  I installed my hood, lined it all up nice and when I installed the seal, hood high in the rear.  Over time it set in,  when you drive the engine will add heat and hurry the process.
