67 Pace Car legit?
« on: January 12, 2019, 03:11:53 PM »
I don't usually track tags on eBay but this one caught my eye. I have never seen a trim tag with a vertical alignment so high that it slightly overlaps the GMC stamping. Maybe it was due to the way these were built and possibly didn't use the same addressograph that was used on the production line?
Does this look legit? The VIN on the block looks sort of like 7N207648

It's 124677N207643 and it's real. We have in the notes that it's a very nice restored car.

Thanks, Ed. I assume then there was a different addressograph used being the alignment seems off from what I see on production car tags.
You may want to check your records because the last digit in the VIN (as shown on the block) definitely looks like the bottom of a numeric 8 judging by the closed circle instead of an open sided part of 3.

It's 7N207648. I believe Jerry looked at the car - I highly recommend getting a copy of his report.
I don't like the tag, btw.

I second that emotion. A little too perfect, plus the rivets look bogus -

I like this one better, although it's a small block. I always wanted a '67 to sit with the Z11, but not at this price.

Thought we had posted it before - no pad shown in the CL ad. I still like the trim tag better, although the dimple at the top is questionable. Rivets look better, anyway.

An observation - '67 and '68 trim tags are more distinct than the '69's, lettering is pretty crisp, raised, '69 production sequence on the tags seems almost to disappear. Maybe the Addressograph platen got pounded to death over the years ?

Steve

The 'dimple' as in the bend of the tags top?
That may have been from removing the hood by yourself  and the end got away from your grip (as me how I know)  :'(
