Sneaky Pete: We ran the Motor on a METS-1 Test Stand in the Garage.
Tons of Challanges many self-imposed (*Mistakes)  It is Paramount to have other sets of "EYES" for safety and just plain doing things right.

Maintenance / Re: Alternate Valve Lash Adjustment Procedure
« Last post by 169INDY on May 02, 2025, 02:39:09 AM »
We recently used a pair of dial indicators to try to obtain the real world "Ratio" of some aftermarket stamped steel roller tip rocker used in my Motor.
The Result Lifter rise 100 thou (0.100"), Valve tip motion 140 thou (0.140") simultaneous measurement using two indicators (*Only one shown for illustration purposes)
140/150= 93%   (0.93) [Factor]
0.030* .93 = 0.028"

Hope we did it correctly. the motor idles nice at 950 with 10-11" VAC

Valves Set Cold 028 thou. using the John Z / Duke Process.

Note: These sourced rockers, by prior owner and not know mfr. other than the rocker has a mark on top of a backwards "F" symbol would be curious to know the source.

I see that as well the brotch looks good the block had been dipped took 30.  It does not match my z. As in my prior post I have a corvette 327 block already. I come across this block and having a real z car wanted to install this one. The person having it had 2 of them. It to me does not look like a restamp just heavier I can't see evidence of another number. That said even the seller was straight up not asking for a fortune. Thank you for responding maybe someone can add or bring more to light. Here a couple more pics

Maintenance / Re: AC Fuel Pumps on '69 Z28

My 1970 BOSS 302 still has its original Carter X 4910S fuel pump, which was rebuilt.  I find that the gasoline will evaporate from the carburetor if I don't start the engine every couple of weeks.  I know that some will remove the sight plugs and fill the bowls with gasoline.  I'll just let the car sit for a few minutes if it won't start after a number of attempts and usually it will start with one turn of the starter.

I had a 650 cfm Holley 4150 with mechanical secondaries on my 1966 Mustang and never remember having a problem with the float level
Even with a Le Mans camshaft, it would only rev to 7000 rpm, no match for my friend's 1968 Z28!

Well clearly the deeper strike of the “O” and other numbers vs the depth of the “M” looks a little odd.

I haven't yet started the car up for the first time this spring (I live in northern Michigan), so I'm not able to tell you if the new Carter pump results in the same float level as the no logo AC pump.  I hope to finish my spring "to do" list in the next week or two and then fire up the engine.  I'll report on what I find at that time.
