Well that appears to be a late 69 and 70 passenger car 12 bolt.

Is there a casting date in the webbing area at the edge of the center section? From the rear look at the upper drivers side. Might be something like H 10 9

Go to this link and scroll down for casting date location.

http://www.camaros.org/drivetrain.shtml#axle

Look close at that stamped MC again. Could it be CMC ? With the first C spaced over a little?

  Thanks Bryon

Jim check the casting number on the center section. And post a pic of the rear cover if you can.

Yes MC was used for some trucks/vans in the late 60s.

Not sure about 67 or 69 but yes for 68.

Here are pics of cover  and some numbers I found.

What is it?

Thanks All.

I've definitely got some research to do , I think the axle tubes have been changed because there is diff grease leaking from both sides at the third member!!!!
Car has really wide rear tires , so I'm thinking it's been narrowed.
More pics coming  and I am great full for your input

The format was used in the 70's. Probably a 10 bolt, right?

:-\ BOOOO, I hope not , but I will sure investigate

Thank you for your input

engine numbers any help decoding would be much appreciated

In order to find the correct application, you also need to supply the block casting number and the block casting date.

Paul

Thanks Paul, I am going to look at that .

Looks like the small 6 cylinder manual trans with air conditioning code.

Assembled at the Tonawanda plant on November 11, 1966

Check it yourself here:

Yea I saw that too, but it is a BB, I found the 69- 427/335 or 65-396/325 on Camaro.com, was told it was 69-427

Thanks for your help.

It's either a 65 396 325 or a 69 427 335.

I just came up with the 427/335, was told it was 69-427

Originality / Re: Is it a factory big block?

Isn't it a black car? Can you post the cowl tag info or a pic?

Axle code is easy to check.

It is now , but originally a 59 frost green

If it was a factory "396" car it should also have blacked out tail pan. Perhaps removing trunk lock, tail light lens or rear deck lid weather stripping could expose evidence of factory black paint.
That's a good tell , I'll check it out !!
Thanks

Hi Jim. Welcome to CRG. That's a sweet looking ride. Have you checked the factory stampings on the engine block? If partial VIN matches you got a for sure factory big block. And if they don't match at least you'll know exactly what engine you got there.

Thank You , I have not checked engine block , the guy I bought it from , said engine is 69 427/425 corvette . So I did at least know going in it was not factory power plant. But he did say the car was originally 396 BB
