General Discussion / Re: 1967 rear spoiler question

if you have a rear antenna you did not get a spoiler, regardless of radio ordered.

Completely agree Joey, but ONLY from the factory. Dealers were free to install almost anything you wanted!

When the 1968 Price Schedule was produced was prior the the Dealer Installed Spoiler was an option.

That's not correct. The "dealer installed" spoiler was available late in the 1967 model year, so by the time the 68's were rolling off the assembly line, they could be ordered from the factory (RPO D80) or added by the dealer (which was called "Extension, Luggage Compartment Lid", Group 12.181, P/N 3916633).

If you ordered an AM radio (RPO U63) with the optional rear mounted antenna (RPO U73), the factory said no, sorry pal, ain't gonna happen! However, dealers would do anything you wanted.

So if a buyer wanted the dealer installed rear spoiler and also wanted a radio that called for a rear antenna...

There wasn't a radio that "called for a rear antenna". The rear mounted antenna was factory option RPO U73 and had to be purchased separately. And from the factory, it was only available with the AM radio, and, as you stated, NOT with the spoiler. However, as I stated above, dealer installed accessories weren't regulated so they were free to do almost anything you wanted, which included adding a rear antenna and spoiler!)

Ed

Seems pretty cut and dry to me. Thank you for the detailed breakdown.

General Discussion / Re: New to these forums
« on: August 15, 2018, 02:23:37 PM »
Welcome, I was a newbie about a year ago and the amount of info. I've learned about Camaros is incredible, but the more I read posts from the Kings on this site the more I realize I know so very little. Great place here, everyone is really helpful and great to chat back and forth with. The search function will bring up tons of past forum strings to read on different topics, but if you can't find an answer there many guys on here will help you out. Congrats on the Camaro btw, would love to see a pic or three.

In circling back to this topic, I remember reading in one of the forums someone discussing how they disassembled the heat riser valve to take out the flapper portion (without cutting it out) and then have the weight and spring still showing so it looked original. I have read through forums about heat risers, but can't find that string. Does anyone know which forum what discussion was on, or have input on how to disassemble the heat riser to take out the flapper and then reinstall for the original look? Thanks

That's great news, to be able to put those pieces together. So many of us would like to do the same with our cars as well. YAY!

Any other owners of a survivor 1968 SS 350 motor that could provide some pictures of the motor and engine bay? Thanks

Is there something that shows the item is eligible? I am watching a few used items and added one to a cart as a test but didn't see anything that mentioned it was eligible and it still showed the current price.

Mike

You have to put in the discount code at the checkout: PRIMOSALE

I just purchased this block so I could build a period correct 350 for my car. But if the owner of the car comes calling I'll let them buy it for what I paid. Thanks

I'd sure love to spend a day just going over a survivor car like this, documenting and seeing what "just off the lot" looked like. Enjoy!

I'm looking for any quality images of a 350 CID from a 1968 Camaro (preferably manual). I've searched the forum and net, haven't found much. My set up has a power brake booster, power steering. If anyone had some can you post them here? Thanks for any help.

General Discussion / Re: Kick Panel Speakers - spacer
« on: June 01, 2018, 06:14:31 PM »
In my searching for answers online, I came across these pics. It's for a Chevelle, but it shows spacers as well. I can see they are different sizes of spacers in the pic. In the 68 AIM it calls out different part numbers for each spacer (one side being the same part number). I'm just assuming, but we know what assume gets ya, that it then is referencing different sized spacers per part number. I also noted the material they are made from, so that's why I had asked that question as well since the ones in the pics looked like aluminum. Just interesting tid-bit I found in my research, and didn't find this topic addressed in any forums that I could find. Sorry I can't credit the pics, I can't remember how I came across them.

Yeah, I saw that in the 67 AIM as well. I was thinking the main reason was to stop from crushing the speaker cover with the screw by over tightening. I'll just fashion some based on the previous post and move on to the next mystery with my car. Thank again.

On a side note, does anyone have a template or measurements on where the kick panel speakers are set in the kick panels? I'm going to try and work on this over the weekend to add a little sound to my car now that I've got all the pieces I need. Or is there really only one place they can go with the hollowed out portion. Thanks for any help.

Originality / Re: 1968 z/28 water pump pulley reinforcement plate?
« on: May 29, 2018, 06:10:29 PM »
Just adding to this topic as I'm researching the same thing. I followed the info. in previous posts, and as far as I can tell from reading through the AIM for 68 it looks like the reinforcement plate is noted for clutch fans (K05 sheet A1). But for the regular 4 bladed fan, which is what I'm using for my 350 ci, 295 hp motor, it doesn't look like the plate is called for (6 sheet A7). Can anyone verify that one way or the other if regular V8 motors used that plate as well?
Looking at the 67 AIM (6 sheet A4) it calls for the reinforcement plate for the V8, but I don't see it for 68. Thanks for any input.

Sorry if I wasn't supposed to revive an old thread, just thought since it was the relevant topic keeping one search string would be good. Thanks
