Restoration / Re: Parking Brake Frame Guide Bar Finish?
« on: January 10, 2019, 11:50:10 PM »
Just to add to the conversation, here's one I recently bought on ebay for my car. It looks just like the picture, and the finish. Thanks

Hadn't gotten a response and continued to dig through pics, posts, and those being sold and just for reference if someone is seeking this info in the future, the backing plates on the front were plated for disc brakes. But drum were black backing plates. Thanks

I was a bit confused about the post as I was searching out the color of the drums on a drum brake car, so some clarification please. From what I understand after reading; the drums are to be painted black front and back(mine is a 68), but the front backing plates are plated where as the rear backing plates are black along with the axle assembly? Thanks

He does have two available. One is in storage, the painted black one, and then the one chrome one. I talked to him a bit about it as I'm really wanting to find a 68 chrome lid in good shape so I can rechrome for my car. But he says the chrome lid he has isn't salvageable to rechrome, and I don't have the experience to tell if the condition it's in is something that can be saved. Bummer......

My car is a stick so I don't need a whole unit, just a good condition lid, so still looking. James, the one you have would be perfect, but I just couldn't utilize the base. But anyway, I chatted with him and that's the scoop. Nice guy, has a very nice looking 67.

I second that. Had a set done by them as well, very nicely done and very conscientious about quality.

Someone awhile back actually paid $50 for a piece of ORIGINAL scrap metal from the cutout off a 68 Camaro. The circle piece was about the size of baseball. If I could part out a Camaro for $50 for every square couple inches, maybe that should be my retirement plan.

Says this is for Standard or RS, and there's a link to the other side extension if that's what you are seeking. If you're wanting NOS or original, at least HBC gives you the parts #s too. Thanks

As stated in the ebay post, no vin# so not sure how to match up to the correct car. But I guess if you are seeking a date correct 350 for your SS this may do. Thanks

Would anyone be able to tell me what the part #(s) would be for the accelerator spring(s) for an L48 350 ci with a 4 speed would be for 68? I've tried to look through posts and some parts book pages, but could not find any info. Thank you for any help you can provide.

Here's a link to the recent discussion about them http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=7160.0 so maybe that will help. But I did find a guy on Yenko that sold me a set, much much cheaper than what you'll find out on ebay. Thanks

General Discussion / Re: What thieves will do to steal a car!!!

On a side note, but related to this type of story, I'd be interested in hearing some of the steps owners have taken to protect their cars when out driving them (i.e. chain on hood so it can't be popped open, lock on steering wheel, some type of kill switch hidden, etc.)

Back in the 80's I owned a 77 Nova, sooped up of course. Fun car, but it had an aftermarket equalizer on it and it was also wired to the ignition. It had a built in kill switch on the underside of the equalizer that I'd turn on when I felt I needed it. I always thought it was a great idea as it was hidden well and would keep some quick minded thief from taking my car.

Anyway, just interested in hearing what seasoned owners do to protect their rides. Thanks

Yeah, there are a few guys on here that scour those sites finding engine blocks, trannys, etc. that have numbers in the hopes of notifying someone who may have the original car. I've seen some guys post too that they have a certain block or transmission available in the hopes that they could match it up to the original car. Definitely a nice pursuit. I posted a message on an engine block I own in case someone ever searched the numbers and found it on here.

I think that's what the Orphans section is for. I'm on there almost daily hoping someday my engine will pop up for my 68.
