General Discussion / Re: JohnZ --
« on: June 24, 2021, 12:48:47 PM »
I wish I had gotten a chance to every meet John Z, sounds like he encapsulated what this car hobby (obsession) is really all about for a lot of us.

Just a thought, but would there ever be any interest in this group to have some small Zoom sessions of forum users? Just to put a face with the name, or account header per say? I chat with a lot of people over on Yenko when I buy things there, but really it's only ever been online. And I read a lot of posts here on CRG from guys who are very knowledgeable and have helped me out personally a lot (verifying as best as I can what my car is). IDK, just thought maybe an online chat session to introduce some of these powerhouse leaders in first gens to the novices like me, face to face as best we can, would be interesting. Take me for a walk around your garage, it'd probably blow minds. Thoughts on this? I didn't see a place over on Yenko to post a general thought like this, so I thought I'd try here. I guess what brought this thought up really, I wish I'd have ever gotten the chance to meet John Z, even if digitally, and listen to his stories, knowledge, etc. Thanks

Shane

This was very informative, confirmed other info. I had read about the different part numbers. But really didn't know about the profile differences. Great bit of knowledge here, thank you for the research and posting.

I pulled this from the 67 Camaro AIM, looks like the bolt passes through the hole and has washers and a nut holding it. Sorry if this is incorrect.

I don't know if I've ever seen a picture of that bracket attached to the head lamp housing, especially from an original car. If anyone has one, it'd be great to add to this thread. Thanks

Hello,
Does anyone have an image, or can take a picture, of what the original screw 9419380 looks like? This screw is in the AIM 12-A6 and is listed as the screw that attaches the grille bracket to the headlamp bezel. I haven't been able to find a reference to the size or an image of what it looks like. So hoping someone may have that info. or an original car that a picture can be taken of it. Thanks for any help. Cheers!

I 2nd that, contacting Rich or Enoch over on Yenko. I can even give you his cell if you'd like, just PM me, as he is fine taking direct calls/texts on OEM parts too. Good guy to work with in my experience. Thanks

I did get a response from the guy locally that did mine and he said he'd use a stretch nylon cloth and he charges about $20, plus shipping the speaker back to you. If you're interested his name is Matt and Utah Reconing is the company. Thanks

I live in Salt Lake City, and had my speaker reconed by a guy who does that as a side job. Actually found him on Ebay. he also installed the new screen mesh over the top like the originals. I sent him a message on ebay on what he'd charge for that and if he'd just do the mesh. If I get a response, I'll try and connect you to him. Thanks

Thank you Jon. I just wasn't sure based on a couple posts if that was the case, or the late May - July cars, even the SS 350, were silver in the middle. Much appreciated, I guess mine is correct.

Hey all,
Sorry to resurface this old thread, but as I read through it I never felt like there was a definitive answer on the grille color change for the late 68 Camaros, and some contradictory statements. I also looked up other threads and couldn't find anything, and no further research on the topic in the research area.

I have a early July 68 Camaro, that I believe was a 350 SS. I can't document that, but I'm building it that way. So for that late model of Camaro, would the standard grille be all black, or black on the outside surface and gray in the middle area, or black on the outside surface area and argent silver in the middle (this is the direction I'm leaning after trying to decipher the comments)? Thanks for any help you can provide.
