General Discussion / Wires?
« on: January 17, 2017, 04:09:46 PM »
Needing some help from the experts who've gone through Camaros before. I am working on changing out my dash pad in my 68 and when I pulled the gauge console to get that last elusive nut removed on the pad, I noticed these cut wires. Can anyone ID what they may have been for? The purple looks to be cut on both ends, and the yellow I can only see cut in the picture and don't know where it goes to. Possibly the radio (which someone in their infinite wisdom has seemingly taken a jack hammer to that part of the console)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

General Discussion / Cross member
« on: December 22, 2016, 04:13:55 PM »
I'm looking for a picture, or description, of how the cross member should be positioned in my car. It's a 68, original 4 speed muncie, currently has a 350 and I believe originally a SB car. I took out the trans to have it rebuilt, and I didn't take notice of how the cross member was positioned. As I have put it back together, the shifter (a hurst) seems to sit too far to the passenger side and I think will hit my console. Wondering it I have the cross member in incorrectly. Stupid me, didn't take pics when I removed it. Currently it sits with the wide oval bolt slots on the passenger side that mount to the sub frame. Thanks for any help.

General Discussion / Pinion Flange

I am planning on taking out my rear axle this winter and swapping it out back to the original 3.31 12 bolt Posi, instead of the 4.11 gears that are in there and then cleaning it up, repainting etc.. On the pinion flange for a 68, were they originally the Ubolt set up or the strap set up? Mine currently is the Ubolt, but I have seen different articles and replacements that also are the strap setup. I didn't find any strings discussing this particular topic. Thank you for any help. The car has the original Muncie M21 4spd, 350 CI. Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

General Discussion / oil drain plug
« on: November 23, 2016, 03:31:06 PM »
I am looking for any information or pictures on what the original oil drain plug would look like for a 1968 Camaro. The car has a 350 in it, it's supposedly an SS (not sure if that matters on this issue). I see so many different kinds out there for sale from vendors and 2nd party, not sure what it a correct finish or marking. Went through the other forum discussion and didn't see any images. Thanks for any help.

General Discussion / Originality?
« on: October 13, 2016, 05:47:31 PM »
So, forgive me if I'm speaking about something addressed before. I am relatively new to the life of actually owning a Camaro, although been hooked ever since I was 5 when my aunt would take me cruising at night in her 68 while she babysat me. As I am working on my car (and although not very educated, loving every minute of it), when I take something apart on the car to clean it, or replace/repair it, I want to put it back together as accurately as possible as a tribute to originality. That's just what I appreciate and like to see. Not really into drastic mods.

Has there ever been thought to putting together an archive of just photos, maybe verified by a few select highly educated and respected individuals on this site, that show original color schemes, bolts, designs, patterns, markings, etc? Or is it just simpler to search through the multiple strings that have been collected over the years of this site to find those images and discussion points? I bought all the books I was recommended too from an earlier post, great reading and highly educational, but many have either B/W photos or drawings, so discerning color and detail is challenging.

I've seen the section on here of original cars and I have gone through every post, but still wish they were more in depth in the images or maybe just all in one place. Maybe I'm just that newbie hungry for information, IDK. Anyway, thanks for the information and would appreciate thoughts about this. Heck, it just may be logistically impossible due to the amount of deviations and storage it'd take for all those photos, anyway just thinking. Thanks.

General Discussion / Re: 12 bolt diff fluid

Thanks guys, appreciate the input. I went and got some fluid last night based on the postings and prior string. Much appreciated. I dare say, this is one of the few GOOD places on the internet.

Hey, I tried searching the strings on here and couldn't find this posted before. I am replacing the gasket and cover on my 68 Camaro, and wondering what people recommend for the replacement fluid? It's a 12 bolt posi rearend. It's not stock, it's a 3.73 in there, supposed to be a 3.31. I have some Royal Purple 75w90, and states it doesn't damage any yellow metal parts. Anyway, what would you recommend as a new fluid with todays technology in fluids, and how full? Thanks.

Perfect Ed, thank you for the pics. It helps me to as least find correct looking replacements.

Can anyone provide me with pics of what the tilt steering release lever, turn signal lever and emergency flasher knob lock like original in a 1968 camaro, floor shift? I am replacing my non-tilt with a tilt and it didn't come with any of the levers. There are so many variations for sale online I'm not sure which is correct (they all say original reproduction). I couldn't find a string that showed that type of detail. Thanks.

Can anyone give me some information on a good reference book or website for 1968 Camaros? I'd really like one that highlights pictures of correct appearance, detailed as possible (i.e. bolts used, original colors and textures of parts in engine and undercarriage). Thanks.

Quote from seller on ebay: when I told him I put the info on CRG in case someone was looking for the engine.

No reason to do that the owner wants nothing to do with the matching number drive train

It's a pick up only, no shipping option  :(, otherwise I'd seriously be looking into getting the motor for my Camaro as I'd like to put a 350 back in mine. So if anyone lives in that area of Cromwell, Connecticut and is looking, here you go. If there is ever anyone that knows shipping options and could coordinate that, I'd be interested as well.
