General Discussion / Choke Edelbrock Performer RPM Q-jet
« on: November 27, 2017, 09:52:56 PM »
Question regarding chokes, and I thought I'd seen a string on this before but I can't relocate it. I have a stock Quadrajet carb for my car, 7028213, and I also have a NOS choke kit for that carburetor. I had purchased a Edelbrock Performer RPM Q-Jet intake for rebuilding a 350 to put in my car. When I mount the carb onto the intake, the NOS kit won't work/reach from the platform on the intake to the linkage on the carb for the choke. I then purchased the choke kit from Edelbrock (1931) and the choke rod won't work/reach.
Has anyone ran into this, options of another kit or rod to use? I'd like to stay with the NOS kit and keep it looking as original as possible, but not sure that's gonna work. Any help or input greatly appreciated. Thanks

General Discussion / Parts manual and numbers
« on: November 21, 2017, 10:56:01 PM »
Could someone point me in the right direction as a source for a parts number book for first gen Camaros? I have the AIMs for all the years and they give some information, but on some areas not a detailed breakdown. I read posts where others reference very detailed info. on parts and availability for certain year cars and I'd like to find a resource like that as well. I see different CDs on ebay, but just not sure what is the right/best source. Any info. would be greatly appreciated. Thanks much and happy Turkey Day.

General Discussion / 68 Washer Pump
« on: October 31, 2017, 04:55:09 PM »
Hey guys, I searched through different posts and couldn't find an answer. On my 68, the rubber plunger inside the washer pump has a big hole in it so it won't spray. Gotta fix this to pass safety on my car...ugh. Anyway, I've looked and found two options, but not an expert on which part would fit my 68, since that pump is different than other years and I'd like to keep it original instead of replacing with a new washer pump. Is there someone who rebuilds these that anyone knows of, or do it myself? If I do it, does anyone know of a place to buy a replacement part? The only one I could find was on ebay: part # 4918445 (I don't have a parts catalog to tell me if this will work, and the AIM only lists the entire unit). Or should I buy a used one, there is one on ebay, and scavenge the parts off of it I need? Thoughts and input greatly appreciated. Thank you

General Discussion / Horn Restoration
« on: October 24, 2017, 11:08:38 PM »
Does anyone know of a company that I can contact about repairing/rebuilding/restoring my set of horns that came off my car? I'd like to keep the date code correct ones to the car instead of buying repo. I searched through the forum, but didn't find any posts on this topic. One is bent up pretty bad and will need some work to reshape (if that is even possible). Any suggestions much appreciated. Thanks

General Discussion / 68 grille color
« on: May 30, 2017, 05:22:19 PM »
Hi all,
I have read through many different strings on grille color, and I interpret that mine should be black. But can someone tell me what type of black?

I am installing a new grille on my 68 camaro, it will be badged as an SS. So the grille color should be black according to what I've read here. My car has a build date of 07A. I am going to attempt to paint myself, I can find flat black and ultra flat black on HBC. But not sure what flat black. Can someone assist with what color black it should be? Thanks.

General Discussion / Seat frames
« on: February 17, 2017, 10:11:54 PM »
Just trying to decipher all the different posts about seats, looking at restoring my interior in my 68 Camaro. Are 68 and 69 front bucket seat frames the same? I have a friend who has 69 bucket seat frames with hear rests, and wants to get rid of them. They need recovered, and I'd buy them and recover them with 68 deluxe seat covers and new foam. But not sure if the seat frames for the 69 bucket seats could be recovered with 68 deluxe seat covers and foam. Thanks for any input.

General Discussion / Grab Bar
« on: February 13, 2017, 09:35:30 PM »
Newbie here, still learning. I've gone through some of the search strings and didn't really find an answer, but did 68 Camaros come with a passenger side grab bar? Or was that only factory installed in 69? And just added on by dealers/owners themselves in 68s? I like the look of the grab bar, but when I research purchasing one they all state for 69 Camaros. I see it in the AIM for 1968, but the kits I see for sale all state 69 and have different looking spacers for the back behind the dash than what is in the AIM for 68. Thanks.  Shane

General Discussion / dash pad restoration
« on: February 12, 2017, 08:44:14 PM »
I've scanned through other postings, but many are fairly old. So I'm asking if anyone knows of a good vendor as of now who does repair/restoration on dash pads. I have 3 or 4 cracks in the original dash pad on my 68 Camaro, standard black? Or is the best option to try and fix myself with a vinyl repair kit that I've read about in some other postings? I'd like to keep original if I can get it restored before going and getting a replacement. Any info or help is appreciated. Thanks.

General Discussion / Good source for ring and pinion
« on: January 21, 2017, 04:25:21 PM »
Not sure if this type of post is ok, but wondering if anyone knows a good source in their travels to find a good used 3.31 ring and pinon for a 12 bolt in my 68 BS code rear? Like someone they know who has some of these parts and may be willing to let them go. I'd like to take my car back to original ration versus what's in there now. I've following and checking some selling sites to no avail. Any help would be appreciated. If this is inappropriate please feel free to end the string. Thanks.

General Discussion / Wires?
« on: January 17, 2017, 04:09:46 PM »
Needing some help from the experts who've gone through Camaros before. I am working on changing out my dash pad in my 68 and when I pulled the gauge console to get that last elusive nut removed on the pad, I noticed these cut wires. Can anyone ID what they may have been for? The purple looks to be cut on both ends, and the yellow I can only see cut in the picture and don't know where it goes to. Possibly the radio (which someone in their infinite wisdom has seemingly taken a jack hammer to that part of the console)? Any help would be appreciated. Thanks.

General Discussion / Cross member
« on: December 22, 2016, 04:13:55 PM »
I'm looking for a picture, or description, of how the cross member should be positioned in my car. It's a 68, original 4 speed muncie, currently has a 350 and I believe originally a SB car. I took out the trans to have it rebuilt, and I didn't take notice of how the cross member was positioned. As I have put it back together, the shifter (a hurst) seems to sit too far to the passenger side and I think will hit my console. Wondering it I have the cross member in incorrectly. Stupid me, didn't take pics when I removed it. Currently it sits with the wide oval bolt slots on the passenger side that mount to the sub frame. Thanks for any help.

General Discussion / Pinion Flange
« on: December 14, 2016, 03:30:49 PM »
I am planning on taking out my rear axle this winter and swapping it out back to the original 3.31 12 bolt Posi, instead of the 4.11 gears that are in there and then cleaning it up, repainting etc.. On the pinion flange for a 68, were they originally the Ubolt set up or the strap set up? Mine currently is the Ubolt, but I have seen different articles and replacements that also are the strap setup. I didn't find any strings discussing this particular topic. Thank you for any help. The car has the original Muncie M21 4spd, 350 CI. Thanks for any help, much appreciated.

General Discussion / oil drain plug
« on: November 23, 2016, 03:31:06 PM »
I am looking for any information or pictures on what the original oil drain plug would look like for a 1968 Camaro. The car has a 350 in it, it's supposedly an SS (not sure if that matters on this issue). I see so many different kinds out there for sale from vendors and 2nd party, not sure what it a correct finish or marking. Went through the other forum discussion and didn't see any images. Thanks for any help.

General Discussion / Originality?
« on: October 13, 2016, 05:47:31 PM »
So, forgive me if I'm speaking about something addressed before. I am relatively new to the life of actually owning a Camaro, although been hooked ever since I was 5 when my aunt would take me cruising at night in her 68 while she babysat me. As I am working on my car (and although not very educated, loving every minute of it), when I take something apart on the car to clean it, or replace/repair it, I want to put it back together as accurately as possible as a tribute to originality. That's just what I appreciate and like to see. Not really into drastic mods.

Has there ever been thought to putting together an archive of just photos, maybe verified by a few select highly educated and respected individuals on this site, that show original color schemes, bolts, designs, patterns, markings, etc? Or is it just simpler to search through the multiple strings that have been collected over the years of this site to find those images and discussion points? I bought all the books I was recommended too from an earlier post, great reading and highly educational, but many have either B/W photos or drawings, so discerning color and detail is challenging.

I've seen the section on here of original cars and I have gone through every post, but still wish they were more in depth in the images or maybe just all in one place. Maybe I'm just that newbie hungry for information, IDK. Anyway, thanks for the information and would appreciate thoughts about this. Heck, it just may be logistically impossible due to the amount of deviations and storage it'd take for all those photos, anyway just thinking. Thanks.
