1969 - Orphans / Re: 19N568469 V1218DZ Block

I wish it was about a week earlier on the stamp!  I just had an engine built for my Z but not close to being date correct.

Probably 19N568 on the VIN.  That would have probably been in a 12C car, and mines a 12B.

Close, but no cigar!

I don't know of a list but another good marking to look for on Norwood cars is the X code in crayon on the sheet metal behind the rear seatback on the passenger side. I believe it should be there unless your car was built prior to using X-codes.  Pre-12B

Originality / Re: trunk lid rear emblem with factory D80 spoiler
« on: August 26, 2017, 03:20:56 AM »
You're welcome!

If there is a question as to whether the spoiler is original or added to your car later, you can always measure the diameter of the torsion springs that hold the trunk lid open.  Original D80 cars have one larger torsion spring to hold the extra weight of the spoiler.  So if both torsion springs are the same diameter the spoiler was probably added later.  If one spring is bigger than the other, that almost guarantees that D80 was originally optioned on the car.

When D80 was ordered the same emblem moves to the location just in front of the spoiler.

I just thought the 6 and the 9 of ST69 looked different than mine.  But I haven't looked at them long enough to judge one way or the other.

I own a 12B X33 and I do see some differences.

I'm sure the experts will chime in.

Nice early 68 Z!  It looks like previous owner wanted people to know it was a Z/28.

I'll be anxious to see how your project progresses.

Originality / ZL2 Hood Grommet
« on: August 17, 2017, 08:36:26 PM »
I was looking at the available repop hood grommets that the solenoid wire goes through, and they are nothing like I remember them being back in the day.  They just have a big hole in the middle.

Did GM change to that style at some point later on?

Does anyone make the original style or know any availability of originals?

Like they say, they're not really "our" cars, we are just the caretakers until we pass on.  Then someone else becomes the new caretaker!  And the cycle continues!

Nice pics Bill!  Please, more details and pics.  What's the build date and where was it built?

That would have a very high cool factor to pop the hood and see that chrome triangle air cleaner!

Ed, what a great view of the underside of the crossram hood!  For being resized to fit within the parameters of this forum, it's incredibly large and crisp.

So all you ZL1, LS7 & L88 guys, please reply.

Hi Bentley.  I'm thinking that's a very small crowd of people! :)
