Hi First Gen Camaro Experts:

I'm trying to find GM factory correct trunk weatherstripping for a 1968 Standard Base Model Camaro with a production date of May 14, 1968.  I'd really be interested in the GM part number and where I can actually find Concourse level judging acceptable trunk weatherstripping.  I've heard that Soft Seal makes a decent aftermarket weatherstripping, but I'm not sure the judges would accept it.  Many thanks in advance.  gwp4

Hi First Gen Camaro owners/drivers:

I have a 1968 Camaro standard base model.  I'm trying to decipher the factory correct front and real wheel well opening moldings.  In researching this topic for the past few days, I think I'm getting closer to getting it right, but I wanted to get the final approval from the experts at CRG.  This is what I have so far:

From Heartbeat City Camaro (part EXT-1526):

GM9785881 LF
GM9785880 RF
GM4229494 LR
GM4229493 RR

But from Camaro Central (part BCM-898):

GM9785881 LF
GM9785880 RF
GM7229494 LR
GM7229493 RR

I'm not sure why the LR and RR part numbers are different.  Does anyone know what are the correct GM part numbers for the LR and RR wheel well molding for a non-RS 1968 Camaro?  Are they published in the 1968 Camaro FAIM or in the 1968 Fisher Body Service Manual?  I've looked and unfortunately no joy.  Finally, I've read that D&R Classic makes the best wheel well moldings, but I'm not sure.  Several people swear by Classic Hqs.

Restoration / 1968 Camaro Base Model - Factory Correct Ignition Coil and Bracket

Hello First Gen Camaro Owners:

I'm restoring my 1968 base model Camaro CPE with a 327/210 hp, with no a/c, and w/out cowl induction, to its original factory condition for judging competition.  It's not a Z-28, SS or RS.  The assembly date for the car was May 14, 1968 at the Norwood, OH plant.  I'm very interested in learning the correct GM part numbers for the Delco-Remy ignition coil and bracket.  I'd also be very interested in learning the correct factory color for the coil and bracket.  Many thanks.  gwp4

Hi Camaro Experts -

Does anyone know if the dealer service door jamb tag (see attached photo) was installed on all 1968 Camaros?  Did all dealerships install these or were they only used by a small number?  I wanted to check to see if it would be factory incorrect for a 1968 Camaro not to have one on the driver's side door jamb.

Hi First Gen Camaro Experts:

I'm having some trouble installing a chrome emergency 4-way flasher pull knob (GM 398165) (first photo), which I believe is factory correct for a standard model base 327/210 1968 Camaro coupe. However, I've attached another photo (second one) of a black knob.  Did GM use the chrome knob on Z28, SS, RS models and the black one on base model Camaros?  Also, the chrome knob has a screw on the end (see third photo) and my original steering column also has a screw coming out from the column (see fourth photo).  I'm not sure exactly how the knob is installed on the steering column.  Should one of the screws be removed?  Greatly appreciate any assistance.  gwp4

Hi Ed -

Great stuff.  Very much appreciated.  No, the car was never in Canada.  It was manufactured in Norwood, Ohio (base model standard coupe – 327 MT) and sold in Northern Virginia.  I'm pretty sure the emissions decal GM 3927747 (see attached) went on the radiator support bar on the driver’s side, but I can’t determine what decal (since it’s not the coolant decal) might have been on the front middle of the radiator fan shroud as shown in the first photo.  Any thoughts from you or any other Camaro experts?

Hello fellow First Gen Camaro owners/experts:

I'm getting to the point in the restoration process of adding engine compartment decals to my 1968 Camaro 327/210 hp 3-spd no a/c with an A.I.R. factory-installed emission system.  The car was assembled in mid-May 1968 in Norwood, OH.  I've attached a couple of old photos of how the engine compartment looked before the restoration.  I can make out the air cleaner decals, but am having a harder time with the anti-freeze thermostat and emissions decals.  Did the factory put the anti-freeze thermostat decal on the radiator fan shroud in the middle near the engine and the emission decal on the radiator support bar on the driver's side?  I can barely make out what could be the thermostat and emission decals in the photos. 

Any help from the Camaro experts would be greatly appreciated.  Many thanks.  gwp4

Hi First-Gen Camaro enthusiasts:

I have a 1968 standard base model Camaro 327/210 hp manual trans LF7 and would like to hear if any of the experts on the site can provide some good information on factory correct license plate hardware for the front and rear plates.  I've researched it a little and surfaced the photo in the first attachment.  I think that kit is correct.  The screws are p/n 3875313, but I'm not sure of the retainer.  However, I've only been able to find the retainers contained in the second photo.  Did anyone have any luck finding the correct retainers, which are shown in the first photo?  Assuming they're correct.

That's great information.  I have an LF7 3-speed manual transmission so my car would take the 6483655 sticker.  Any recommendations on where I can find the sticker?  I didn't see it advertised at the big restoration parts sellers, such as Classic Industries, Heartbeat City, etc.  Many thanks.  gwp4

Hello First Gen Camaro drivers:

I have a 1968 Camaro 327/210 hp 2bbl and want to get it back to original.  I found two air cleaner decals for 1968 Camaro's and can't figure out which one is factory correct.  One has GM part number 6424425 and the other has GM part number 6424492.  Anyone have any expertise in this area?  I've attached a photo of the two decals.

I need some help fellow Camaro drivers.  I have an original 2 bbl Rochester carburetor 2 Jet 7028101 C8 CG (see attached photo) and am looking to replace the spring in the attached photo.  Does anyone know where I might find one (original or aftermarket) or have one for sale?  The car is a standard base model 1968 Camaro with a 327/210 hp SB 3-spd no ac.  Many thanks.  Tommy68

Wow, those are some great photos.  So clean.  I'm also interested in the interior floorboards and whether they should have 2 coats of primer and then a top coat to protect against the hated rust.  Anyone have any positive experiences with Master Series or Eastwood's Rust Encapsulator or prefer one over the other?  I'm curious what GM might have used to coat (or not coat) the interior floorboards on the cars coming from the factory. Or did they just let them roll off the line with some thin tack paper under the jute and carpeting.  Keep up the great responses.  Many thanks. gwp4.

Hi Camaro Experts -

I'm restoring my standard base model 1968 Camaro back to it's original condition and have a question about the floorboards.  Did GM ever use any coating or rust preventer on them?  Also, I'm wondering if I should put a rust preventer primer on the boards with a top coat on top to try and keep the rust away.  Anyone have any positive experiences with Master Series or Eastwood Rust Encapsulator? Are they close to what GM might have used back in 68?  Or would straight epoxy do the trick?  Look forward to comments and recommendations.  Many thanks.  gwp4
