Restoration / Shock paint
« on: December 27, 2020, 06:10:43 PM »
Does anybody have a mix formula or code for the Delco Products grey in a single stage paint? I know there are spray bombs out there, but would like something a bit more durable with a hardener in the mix.  Maybe firstgenaddict?

Lookups can be done on-line on the GMWiki:

www.gmpartswiki.com/browse

Its a bit of a pain unless you know the book, otherwise a part number search will show many books.

It may be the typical paranoia that yeah, TODAY there are restrictions to the records, but TOMORROW after the databases are hacked and the DMV only says "Oops...sorry for not having good security".

Eric did mine.  Wasn't cheap, but good usually isn't.  Would do it again in an instant.  The only issue is it looks so nice I don't want to put gas in it!

The "additional machining" referred to is an unshroud cut around the larger 2.02 intake valve.

On this topic, can anyone confirm that the Flint engine plant was the only one with the tooling to do this cut and that is why all SHP small blocks came from Flint?  Seems like I read that somewhere in the past.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Caveat Emptor ... Transmission stamp

Not an expert on the stamps, but I do seem to recall that the engine and trans partial VIN were done with the same stamp at the point on the line.  Amazing how different the fonts are.  Should have used wing-dings!

You can buy NOS comfortweave material from SMS fabrics in Oregon. I believe it is $175/yard
I just had a set of seatcovers made by SMS from Original NOS comfortweave.
The reproduction covers were $450 and were available immediately.
The SMS covers sewn from original material were $1300 -$1400 and it took 6 months to get them.

how many yards of material did it take to do them?

Restoration / Re: What is meant by N44 versus Quick ratio
« on: April 04, 2020, 11:01:29 PM »
Not sure if you have access to the "Chassis and Service Overhaul Manual" for 1969, but the 1970 version lists the different steering box ratios along with the overall steering ratios.  If the 1969 version is the same, you can maybe tell at least what the difference is for a Z28 and and N44 non-Z28 and see if they are similar.  Th 1970 doesn't list the specific option codes, bit it does list the box ratios for standard and Z28 and the power steering ratios.  A little deduction and maybe you can come up with the answers.

Its a shame for us old guys that someone doesn't make a printer that can take the digital versions and print and bind them automatically into a magazine format.

Originality / Re: Power Steering Return Hose Script and Clamps
« on: December 05, 2019, 11:26:32 PM »
The script repeats either every 6 inches or possibility of 3 inches.  On mine, there is no printing at the 3 inch point, but they may have been rubbed away.  The foam wrap is at the 3 inch place.

The characters are 0.25 high, 0.125 wide and on a center-to-center spacing of 0.187.

Thinking of refreshing the stamps.  Any idea who makes the stamps?  Hobby Lobby or Michael's Aart supply?
