I have researched this a bit and ran across this for the most exact match:

PPG DIA9317 Black Textured

DMA358----283.8 parts----Black
DX265-----121.6 parts-----Flattener
DMA364----81.1 parts------Texture
DMA375----20.3 parts------Blue

This is acrylic lacquer which is what the factor sprayed.

Figure about $100 for a pint, if you can find a store to sell it.

Yeah, definitions are getting really blurry these days.  "Numbers matching" means that the numbers match to something, but maybe not anything.  "Born with Drivetrain" means it is a drivetrain that was born with something, but maybe not the car in question, "Real Deal" means the seller likes to play poker.  You get the point.  Phrases mean nothing anymore.  Especially with cars that have been traded like kids used to trade baseball cards.  Unless the car has been researched by a respected authority (Macneish?) AND you consult with that authority before the purchase or you are buying from an original owner with lots of docs (photo archive is nice from before these cars were all about the money) then caveat emptor.

although I have never tried that stuff.  I think the concentration varies from manufacture's.  The Palmetto stuff didn't need anywhere near a gallon.  i bought a quart and it made 5 gallons.

I like how its carefully worded.    "Stamped as 1111480 and dated as 9 A 9".  That's what it is stamped now true, but what was it ORIGINALLY stamped as?

Since most of this was born from the Trans Am racing series it may also be possible that the pit stop serviceability with a hood mounted (i.e. cowl induction) induction was better with hood setup as compared to the firewall plenum setup.  Opening the hood and then staring directly at the carb is faster than fussing with removing the air cleaner, plenum etc.  I believe the real Trans Am racers didn't use all of the cowl air cleaner setup.  Maybe just a baseplate that sealed to the hood. 
The best as I remember is the Corvette L88 hood where the air cleaner was in the hood.

We are a strange crowd I think...Pay good money for a shiny new white valve and then spend much time and money on figuring out how to make it change color!  It does keep it interesting.

The process that I used after phosphating was a quick rinse with tap water (garden hose for larger parts) blow dry with an air hose and then a quick spraying with Boeshield for rust prevention.  Fluid Film is also recommended, but I haven't tried that.  WD-40 is often recommended but maybe that is due to it being so easily available.  I haven't found WD-40 to be a great rust preventative.

Also, wear the disposable nitrile gloves after the glass beading to keep any skin oils from the part.

I've used it twice and no effects on the seal.

Permatex Ultra-Grey and 8 equally spaced pop-rivets.

I mixed up a weak solution of purple cleaner and with a toothbrush cleaned the center section. It left the ink stamps and patina. Then I masked that off and the hub and shot the ins aluminum with walnut shells to clean it. Then, to protect from corrosion shot it with Everbrite satin clear.
Looks good to me. Unless you have a mirror you can't see the front anyway when it's installed.

Going to try it on my repop windshield washer pump. That bright white stands out like a sore thumb.

There has been much discussion about the color of the hinge springs being darker than the hinges themselves. Not sure there is a definitive conclusion.
I am going to try the manganese phosphate and see if it is too dark.
There is a question of hydrogen embrittlement, I think it can be addressed here:

I made a set of "spring spreaders" which are special bolts placed inside the springs and then "unscrewed" to expand the springs. Then the glass beading and plating can get in between the coils.

If you are in the Dayton Ohio area bring them by and I can do the hinges and latch assembly.  I have 10 gallons of the Palmetto stuff mixed up.
Only local stuff.  I don't want to deal with shipping etc.  Glass bead it ahead of time.  I use a SS single bowl sink on the barbeque grill.  It works great!

Great idea, but how did you seal up the drain hole???  :)

I traced out a pattern from the hole on a piece of stainless steel sheet metal, cut it out, ran a bead of gasket rtv and then pop riveted it in place. This was my second try. First sink was a paper thin cheapie that I tried TIG welding and blew so many holes in it I threw it away. Got them both on Craigslist for 15 and 25 dollars. You need this big to do the hood latch and hinges on a '70.
