General Discussion / Re: Decisions Decisions
« on: January 31, 2020, 11:08:53 AM »
Thanks guys for all of the input both pro and con. Guess I’ll see how my decision goes when I start taking it out this spring and summer. Can’t wait to see the reaction from friends and relatives who last saw it as an X33 car and now will see it as a “Plain Jane” basic Z/28.  As someone posted in an earlier thread, it is my car and this is the way I want it to look.

General Discussion / Decisions Decisions
« on: January 29, 2020, 01:47:51 PM »
This has been discussed before. Am having my 2/69 X77 painted. When I bought it 5 years ago it had the Z/21 chrome already installed. Had to decide if I wanted to take it back to original so i made the decision. I told the painter to weld up the holes at the gills to bring it back to original. Hope I am doing the right thing. Read comments from other owners. It’s your car do it your way. Will probably catch flak from friends for doing this, but I want to do right by the car and take it as close to factory original as I can.

Maintenance / Tire pressure gage
« on: August 19, 2019, 03:21:32 PM »
Been trying to check air pressure on my repro Goodyear bias ply tires regularly. Used a small gage I have had for years. Recently I found a couple more hidden in my tool box and decided to try them. Of course, each had a different reading. The was as much as 6 or 7 lbs. difference. Who makes a reliable & accurate tire pressure gage? Is there a way to check the accuracy?

Noticed he doesn’t show ‘69 Camaros on the website and only ‘69 Firebird in red. I would like to use them when my green dash pad needs refurbishing. Know there is a good reason, but wondering why he doesn’t redo the ‘69’s. Would rather use them than the repops I read about.

Video looks like what we did. I still need to find a source for the shaft seal and find out what we did wrong.

The bearing assembly was pressed in flush with the opening per the instructions. The seal does seem to be a 1 piece unit.

Regarding the water pump rebuild kit. Purchased one from Zip. Had a machinist friend help me at his shop. He had a good press and the knowledge. This should not be that hard to do, especially with an experienced machinist. Used the instructions on the Corvette Magazine site. The repair kit did not come with instruction. Took our time and read the instructions carefully, but when we pressed the seal on there was no clearance and the shaft would not turn. Was able to remove the seal without damaging the shaft or housing. Called Zip to see if they would sell another seal. Was informed they did not offer just the seal. Been checking for a source for another seal. All of the chain stores don't carry them. Don't know what we did wrong, but I have $50.00 in a kit I can't use and a pump that is halfway build. My machinist friend questioned some of the instructions(probably went against his experience), but I wanted to follow them as written. Appreciate if anyone has suggestions. Seal shows # 262714.

General Discussion / Re: Help in finding this car

Yea, I know it’s a long shot, but I thought someone out there in Z/28land might know something. This picture was made spring ‘69. This early car did not come with front & rear spoilers. It did have chambered exhaust though, which brought a few conversations with the local law about it being a stock exhaust system.

Attached is a picture of my Navy buddy's '69 Z/28. He bought it in the late fall of '68 and told me several years later it was the 6th Z off of the Van Nuys assembly line. Don't have a VIN, but is there any way to find out if this could be. I would like to find out if the car is still around and surprise my friend with the info. BTW When I went to visit him in early spring of '69 he let me drive it and I ordered mine when I got home. Just had to have one.

Originality / Correct 1969 Windshield washer repair kit
« on: October 27, 2017, 03:28:56 PM »
Wanting to replace my broken washer pump nipple assembly with a new kit. CI has a kit that is supposed to be correct that is black. CC offers one that says it is correct in white plastic. My broken one is black. On an older thread in the Restoration area shows the CC whole pump with a black nipple assembly. Which one is correct.

Restoration / Re: '69 center console oil pressure gage
« on: August 16, 2017, 03:28:13 PM »
Engine does read about 80 lbs. while running. After shut down the gauge read about 15 lbs. Oil line is metal. The other one failed because something on the gauge broke on the back. I will have to dig it out and look.

Just noticed my oil pressure gage started reading about 15 lbs. with the engine off. This is a fairly new gage. The one that this one replaced did the same thing. Anyone else have similar problem and is there more than one supplier?

Did see Brownell, but called Allegheny Arsenal and ordered their Zinc Parkerizing kit for $29.95 + $13.00 shipping. Shipping was fast. Will see how it works.

Did get a call back from the older #. The lady told me they closed down the business(Owens, Group), due to too much red tape involved.  Wished they had taken down their website. I did find a couple of other sites that have similar products, Allegheny Armory and Brownell. Will look into their products.
