General Discussion / Re: Plans for your camaro?
« on: January 04, 2018, 09:52:29 PM »
I'm planning on driving my 69 SS this year. Santa dropped off a set of new
wheels and tires.

Anyone have any thoughts or advice on building a 396
small block for it?

Thanks for the advice. The 68 currently has a six cylinder radiator and no shroud. So I’ll purchase both of those for big block. Wanting to start off with 350 engine first because I’ve got one that’s race ready.

One thing I've learned is rare doesn't equal desirable. I own a 69 ss with rare MC1 3 speed transmission that nobody is interested in.

I’m thinking about installing a 350 smallblock, th400 and 12 bolt rear end in my 68 rs for drag strip duty. Later on the smallblock probably will get changed over to a bigblock. My question is should I use bigblock motor mounts on a smallblock with a th400 crossmember and th400 driveshaft? So when I change over to bigblock nothing has to change, except engine?

I dropped the fuel tank on my 05c Norwood 68 rs last summer to repair pin holes and there was a piece of paper attached to the upper side under one of those tar strips. It was degraded so bad I threw it away. Couldn't make out anything. Now I'm thinking I should have hung onto it. Anyway some of the paper is still attached to the tank, and it's still leaking so next time I drop tank I'll post some pics.

Maintenance / Re: 69 RF brake lock up?
« on: January 29, 2017, 05:19:50 PM »
Hi Jim. Have you made any progress? I was having similar problem with my 1997 GMC truck and thought I'd share how I fixed it.
One rear wheel cylinder was leaking. So I replaced both. Brakes worked fine until the humidity got really high or during rainy spells.
That's when barely touching the pedal right rear would lock up. After the humidity and storms passed it would go back to working fine.
I thought it might have something to do with the brake fluid that had been absorbed into the brake shoe. I switched the shoes from one side
to other side. Sure enough during the next rain the left rear would lock up barely touching the pedal. Replaced both sides with new shoes.
Haven't had any issues since.

I've no experience with Yukon gears. But I have installed some Richmond gears. I really liked the Richmond because the pinion depth and backlash dimensions are scribed onto the gears.

If you're using a 8.2" 10 bolt, I wouldn't spend any $$$ on it for racing. Spend that money on an upgrade. Get a 8.5" 10 bolt or 8.875" 12 bolt. 1972 thru 1979 nova is a cheap source for the 8.5".
