Originality / RPO D96 together with RPO DX1 ?
« on: July 03, 2017, 10:26:41 AM »
My car is an early 69 RS Z22 (9C). In 1969, every Z22 car arrived with D96 fender pin striping.

But was it possible back then to have a second set of stripes ordered for the same car, together with Z22 pack ? I'd like to have the DX1 front end stripes on my car and keep original look, but since my car is an RS it should have them both, right ? Someone can confirm that please ?

Originality / Re: Original wheels paint for dog dish
« on: June 26, 2017, 11:45:13 AM »
Thanks for the reply, I will sure post pictures whenever it's done. Right now I drive a set of FC wheels (drums brakes) with P-01, Firestone wide oval redline and it looks great.

I'm planning for my second set of FC wheels, to have them painted yellow, with dod dish and Goodyears Wide Tread F70-14 white letters.

Also have a set of rally repro 15x7 with BF Goodrich.....

Originality / Original wheels paint for dog dish

Hey guys I'm planning to paint a set of OEM steel wheel and have dog dish installed to them. I know the outside of the wheels is suppose to be painted the same color as the car (Daytona yellow for mine), who about the inside ?

Does all the wheels we're originally black for the factory, then only painted on the outside the same finish color as the car ? Or the inside was also painted ? Or it stays in black ?

Thanks to all

I know that PL5 was not a specific brand of tires, but what were the PL5 brand of tires used back then ? Firestone Wide Oval, Goodyears Wide Tread and maybe Uniroyal Tiger Paw ? Today only the Goodyear is being reproduce, as per original specification...no ?

50
What would be the option code for the F70-14 Goodyear Wide Tread on an RS (not the Polyglass) ? PL5 ?

51
I don't mind much if there's a slight difference on the lettering. In the Chevrolet brochure, on some picture the Camaro is wearing Goodyear Wide Tread F70-14, not Wide Tread GT like many suggest...

52
Correct me if I'm wrong, those Goodyear seems to be kept for the SS big block, Z28 and COPO, right ? Other smaller engine Camaro like 250, 307 and 350 had either Firestone or Uniroyal tires, some with white or red line.

53
The thin white wall version ? With the dog dish cap ?

I know it's been talk here and there in many other topics. I'm looking for something for my early 69 RS, with 14x6 OEM wheels, with dog dish.

Maybe there's some new repro released in the last few years ? I know the Firestone Wide-oval repro are not appropriate as they represent the 70's model, but what about Goodyear ? I've read at many places that maybe some 69 late models we're equipped with Polyglas Wide Tread, but for my early model, what Goodyear model would be the closest one from the original tires ?

On many original pictures, we can see the Wide Tread GT with white letter, but could not find any in repro. The closest I found are the Speedway Wide Tread, but every Custom Wide Tread repro are Polyglas....

General Discussion / Re: Repro tach burned out

I spoke with Pertronix, and here's their answer: The Ignitors will not cause the tachometers to fail, its the same signal as with points. Check your wiring and insure that everything is connected properly according to the tachometer manufacturer.

Thanks to all with the suggestions /trick to help me fix my problem. It may take few weeks before I receive my new tach and make all these tests.

If I decide to add a tach filter, do you guys have a suggested brand and model to buy ? Also on which wires is it connected to ?

From my understanding you're right. The one for the light is independent from the other 3, at least on my car (repro kit for clock, tack and center instruments).  Behind the tach, there's a plug with 3 wires: one going to negative of the ignition coil, one ground, and the third one going to the fuse circuit.

One more sign of a damaged wire. Right now the tach is still connected, except the wire going to the Pertronix, is unhooked. This one is normally hooked on the negative of the Pertronix. When I started the car this morning, the tach needle rises up, to maybe 1500 RPM for 10-15 second, and then it came back down.

Ok thanks for the course about resistance, it's very interesting !

Now can you guys help me to find out how it is suppose to be connected...originally, so I can test all 3 wires, at their both ends ? From behind the tach, "coil" is connected to the negative of the Pertronix. "ground" has to be grounded somewhere near by the back of the tach, on the body ? And what about the third pole, the "12V" connector ? Where should it be connected ? Maybe I should directly route 3 independent brand new wires, and see how it goes......But I still have to order a new tach before to make any test !

I do have an multimeter at home, just taught the continuity was the right way to check. Per example, if I check resistance using both end of a 3-4 feet wire, what should be the resistance ? Then if the same wire is damaged, what can of resistance should I get ?
