Maintenance / Headlamp switch - RS

My mechanic recently fix my repro headlamps switch on my 69 RS, together with the vacuum system Since then, when I pull it to the first level, parking lights comes on like it's suppose to, but my headlamps covers opens as well, but without lighting up.

Is it 100% sure that this problem is coming from the headlamps switch? Or it could be coming from elsewhere?

Before the repairs, when I switch to this position, both covers stay closed.

Any idea ?

Originality / Proper engine decals location

I just my complete engine/engine bay rebuilt and I'm now ready to install the decals, back to original state.

I do have few questions, maybe some pictures would be appreciated.

I bought a complete kit for my engine (LM-1 350/255) from heartbeat, and I'm wondering if it's the best kit ? Maybe there's few other decals I should buy separately elsewhere?

Now I'm wondering about the locations for 3 specific decals:

1-The brake booster tag: where should it be installed, exactly ? Any pictures ?
2-The pollution/exhaust emissions decals: on most of the car I see, they were directly located on the radiator top bar (or rack, not sure about the proper name of it). On my car, there's few plastic clip from under, so there's not enough room to stick the two decal. Anyway those two decals are too high to be stuck on this support. Maybe there's a better place to order those decal and they have the right size ? For now I stick them directly on the fan shroud, is ut correct ?

General Discussion / Original dealer informations/coordinates

Hello everybody, I'm trying to retrieve as much informations as I can, to have the windows sticker done for my 69 RS. Now I'm looking at the original Chevrolet dealer name and coordinates ?

I know that the first owner adress was in St Pete. Florida (from the POP), so I'd like to know what was the name of the closest Chevrolet dealer back in 1969 ?

Anybody can help me ?

Originality / Steel wheel proper color

I have found a set of FC coded 14x6 wheel, for my 69 RS, Daytona Yellow, together with a set of P01 full cover wheel cap. Now I'm wondering what color should be the rim ? Black or the color of my car, Daytona Yellow ? With Poverty cap, I know the wheels are the same color of the car, is it the same with the P01 option ?

By looking at this picture, we clearly see the green wheel, behind the hub cap:


On those following picture, it's hard to see but I don't think that the wheel is painted yellow....behind the hubcap.





If it's suppose to be black, what code of black is it ? My mechanics has found a gloss black (not fully gloss, just between flat and gloss) for the cowl wall and the engine bay, is it the same black ?

Originality / Different air filter assy for A/C or no A/C

I'm restoring my LM1 Camaro. The car is A/C equipped and I'm trying to fit an air filter, but the snorkle is touching the A/C piping.

My question is: is there a different snorkle for A/C equipped car vs non-A/C equipped car ?

Maintenance / Power steering bracket problem

Hello guys, I'm rebuilding my engine compartment completely (my mechanic does in fact loll), and I'm having problem with a particular part: GM no 3959558

It's one of the 3 brackets for the power steering pump. I ordered through Heartbeat, a repro part kit, this one: http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/21937/Camaro-PS-Pump-brackets-SB-GM-1969-1970-1971-1972/

And I'm having problem only with the left one on the picture, no 3959558

Is there few "variant" with this specific part ? My car is A/C and Power steering equipped from the factory, does that make a difference ? After having ordered twice this part with heartbeat, I'm looking at this forum to find the answer.

I've found this one on eBay, it's an original one, maybe the fit would be better ?

Originality / Firestone Wide Oval redline

For my 69 RS Daytona yellow, I'm wondering if the redline tires could be ordered back then as a factory option ? I'm also wondering how redline tires would look with Daytona yellow colour ?

Back in 1969, my father had the same colour combo as mine, and according to the only picture I have from his RS, there seems to be redline tires installed on it. Looking at this picture, do you think it's redline on my father's car ?

Originality / Stripes: which ones ?

My car is an RS 1969, Daytona yellow with 350 LM-1 engine, with black roof. Right now I do have the ZL2 hood and rally black stripes (Z28), which is not appropriate for my car.

I already bought an original flat (regular) hood, and I'm wondering about the type of stripes should have been on my car, from the factory.

Correct me if I'm wrong:

Every RS has from the factory, the pack D96, which are very subtle sideway stripes. Now I know an RS could be ordered with DX1, right ? If I choose to go this way, does the car should have both DX1 and D96, or ordering the DX1, then it delete the D96 automatically ?

Any further information is appreciated.

Originality / Factory A/C

I'm having my LM-1 to my mechanic's garage right now, to bring her engine back to it's original state. Now I do have a question about the air conditioning. Correct me if I'm wrong, but according to the POP, only the power steering was installed, and the radio from the factory. (3 and 3)

Here's my POP:



When I bought the car, the A/C was installed and working. Of course it was not an original compressor, as the whole engine part we're swap for chrome part. But except for the compressor, the rest of the A/C component look pretty original from my opinion, even if the POP doesn't make any mention about A/C. Does the dealer could have add this A/C after the car was bought ? Does a dealer installation look the same as factory installation ?

I notice that there's a little metal plate, screwed on the rear right side of the engine bay, just above the A/C hosing. Does this small plate is related with A/C ? If yes, was it installed from the factory, or could have been added by a dealer, during the A/C installation ?

On the following picture (not my car), this small plate has 3 screws, and is located slightly right of the hood hinges, just by the rubber sealant for the hood.



What do you guys think, about this A/C story ?

Originality / NOS exhaust manifold for 350 CI

I'm searching for the casting number for a set of left and right, exhaust manifold for my LM-1 69 Camaro. I believe that it's the same as the SS350, and some other GM cars, like the Chevelle ?

Anyone have it for same, I can be buyer !

Originality / ZL2 hood on LM-1 engine pack

My 69 Camaro was restored back in 2007 by the previous owner. It's an LM-1 350 with no doubt, with a built date of sept 68, and looking at the equipment from the POP and Cowl Tag.

Now I'd like to know if: and LM-1 with 4 drum brakes, could have the ZL2 optional Hood with Cowl induction air intake ? Maybe this hood has been added after while by the previous owner ? I'd like to bring the car back to his original state from the factory, how to find which hood was there originally ?

Originality / LM-1 original wheels

My car is an LM-1 350 V8, built date 09B, Daytona yellow.

I bought the car without the original wheels. For now, I bought a set of Rally wheel replica, 15x7 and they drive great as daily. I'm thinking to find a set of original wheel, to be use for show mostly. I believe the car arrived originally with 14x6 steel wheel, and my car has drum brakes on all 4 corners.

My question is: what should be the original wheels on an LM-1 option car ? Which one we're the most commun ?

1-14x6 Rally wheel (code XN)
2-14x6 steel wheel (code FC) with P-01 full wheel cap
3-Poverty center cap (not sure what's the code for the steel wheel) ??

From picture I can find, it seems that many COPO 69 Camaro arrived with the Poverty center cap. I couldn't find any picture of a Daytona yellow Camaro with Poverty center cap. Was it mostly reserve for COPO ?

What would be the most appropriated wheel/center cap combo for my LM1 Daytona yellow ?

My LM-1 Camaro doesn't have the optional instruments U17 pack. I'm planning to add it, and have few questions about it. I want it to be as close as possible from the original.

which tachometer should I get ? 5500 redline I believe for my 350 4 barrels/255 hp ?

From what I'm reading, I'll also have to buy the center clock, which one is the best to choose ? Was there few U17 without the clock ?

Originality / RPO CE1

Hey guys ! My 69 Camaro is a real RS, but when the previous owner had her restored, they did not installed the headlamp washers, as it should be on every RS.

Is there a complete retrofit kit (selenoid pump, washer nozzles, hoses, etc) that can be bought for an RS ? If not, what are the different kit/packages required for a complete retrofit and where to buy it ?

Is it the same parts required for an RS, or a regular Camaro ?

Originality / Valve cover 350 CI engine

Does a 69 SS 350 uses the same valve cover as my RS 350 LM1 engine ? Does it fit? Is it the same GM part number originally ?
