Originality / Uniroyal Fastrack tire history and versions....
« on: August 07, 2018, 12:55:46 PM »
Someone knows something about the history of the Uniroyal Fastrack tires ?

I wanted to have a real original setup for show purposes, so I bought a "survivor" spare tire, with XN coded rim (Rally). The tire on that spare is an Uniroyal Fastrack E78-14 white Line.

I bought another set of 4 Uniroyal Fastrack E78-14 white Line, coming from a 67 Mustang. The seller don't know when those tires we're originally installed on his car. I looked at the DOT, and it ends up by a 9, which means the built year is 69 or...maybe 79 ? On the sidewall, there a mention "belted", but there's no such mention on the spare survivor I bought. So they are different Fastrack version....any idea if the kit of 4 could been made in 1979 ? Was the Fastrack still available back in 79 in E78-14 size ? Or it's for sure a 1969 built date ?

Hope someone can help me to find out....

Originality / Which windows crank kit should I buy ?
« on: May 09, 2018, 09:32:35 PM »
My car is an 1969 RS, early built 9B. Daytona yellow, with 712 custom interior, center console, auto 3 speed (TH350), and V8 350 (LM1).

What type of windows crank kit should I buy and should been there originally: black or clear knob ?

Restoration / complete brake booster for drum brakes: parts numbers
« on: September 06, 2017, 05:33:06 AM »
when I had my Camaro restored few years back, I've put a repro brake booster kit, from hbc. It works fine even if it's a booster for disc/drum, but now I'd like to have an original booster.

My RS Camaro, according to the POP has no power brakes originally. The previous owner decided to convert to power brake, so I'd like to continue that way. I do have 4 drums brakes, front and rear. So I'm looking for power brake, with four drums.....originally as much as possible, which parts are required ?

-I've found an original  restored brake booster, casting 3972

-I'm trying to find an original master cylinder, which should be casting 5460465. If I can't find one, I may use this one instead:

https://www.classicindustries.com/product/1969/chevrolet/camaro/parts/mc36233a.html

Wha do you guys think about this one from eBay (only the cylinder part): http://www.cafr.ebay.ca/itm/1971-Olds-Cutlass-Fback-Brake-Master-Booster-5460465/142498292422?ssPageName=STRK%3AMEBIDX%3AIT&_trksid=p2060353.m1438.l2649

Otherwise, what other parts are required to complet my "brake booster" restoration ? What are the casting / part number ?

proportioning valve ?

line ?

distribution braket ?

Right now I'm using the following kit on my car: http://www.heartbeatcitycamaro.com/store/product/25780/1967-1968-1969-Camaro-%26-Firebird-Power-Brake-Booster-%26-Disc-Brake-Master-Cylinder-Kit-With-11%22-Gold-Iridite-Booster-With-Replacement-Style-Master-Cylinder/

Any comment and help are appreciated !

Originality / Brake booster: original colour ?
« on: September 02, 2017, 04:15:05 AM »
I know that most of the repro brake boosters are not painted, just plated.

What about the original ones in our cars ?

I'm looking for an original brake booster for 4 drum brakes, coded 3972, what should be the original finish ? I've seen some in black colour painted...was that a mistake?

Thanks !

Decoding/Numbers / Correct built date for a jack
« on: August 26, 2017, 10:14:57 PM »
My jack is not the original one. I saw that few places, like heartbeat Camaro are selling jack, with many available built dates.

My 69 RS is 9B. What would be the correct built date for the jack ? Any specifications of the dimensions and model type of the jack I should buy ?

Any comments are appreciated, as you guys are the best source of information and knowledge around !

Originality / Exhaust line for a small block: which one to buy ?
« on: August 26, 2017, 03:17:29 AM »
I'm looking to replace the complete exhaust line from the manifolds to the tail pipes. My main objective is to stay the closest as possible from the factory look. I don't mind much about the sound....My car is an LM1 350, RS 1969 with dual exhaust

Which one would be the best to buy ? Aluminized, stainless ? 2" or 2.5" ?

I've found those one:

or

Originality / trunk lid rear emblem with factory D80 spoiler
« on: August 26, 2017, 02:16:59 AM »
I noticed and realized today, that my 69 RS with rear spoiler dont have the "Camaro by Chevrolet" emblem, on the trunk. If D80 was factory installed and ordered, was the emblem just deleted or was it relocated ? Is it the exact same emblem ? Any pictures and advises are welcome please !

Originality / RPO D96 together with RPO DX1 ?
« on: July 03, 2017, 10:26:41 AM »
My car is an early 69 RS Z22 (9C). In 1969, every Z22 car arrived with D96 fender pin striping.

But was it possible back then to have a second set of stripes ordered for the same car, together with Z22 pack ? I'd like to have the DX1 front end stripes on my car and keep original look, but since my car is an RS it should have them both, right ? Someone can confirm that please ?

Originality / Original wheels paint for dog dish
« on: June 26, 2017, 11:13:20 AM »
Hey guys I'm planning to paint a set of OEM steel wheel and have dog dish installed to them. I know the outside of the wheels is suppose to be painted the same color as the car (Daytona yellow for mine), who about the inside ?

Does all the wheels we're originally black for the factory, then only painted on the outside the same finish color as the car ? Or the inside was also painted ? Or it stays in black ?

Thanks to all

I know it's been talk here and there in many other topics. I'm looking for something for my early 69 RS, with 14x6 OEM wheels, with dog dish.

Maybe there's some new repro released in the last few years ? I know the Firestone Wide-oval repro are not appropriate as they represent the 70's model, but what about Goodyear ? I've read at many places that maybe some 69 late models we're equipped with Polyglas Wide Tread, but for my early model, what Goodyear model would be the closest one from the original tires ?

On many original pictures, we can see the Wide Tread GT with white letter, but could not find any in repro. The closest I found are the Speedway Wide Tread, but every Custom Wide Tread repro are Polyglas....

General Discussion / Repro tach burned out
« on: September 11, 2016, 12:34:43 AM »
During my engine restoration last winter, I add to my 69 RS the optional instrument pack, sold by heartbeat Camaro.

I also installed a Pertronix from eBay.

I drove the car for about 1 month then smoke came out from the dash and the tach was gone. I installed another repro tach, and it last for about 2 hours then burned out as well. What's the problem ? The tach is connected to the negative pole of the Pertronix, is there an incompatibility?

Any idea is appreciated ? Thanks to all!

Maintenance / TH-350 keep leaking oil
« on: August 08, 2016, 12:48:03 PM »
My original TH-350 been rebuilt completely recently, they add a new torque as well. It cost me close to 2000$ to have it removed, rebuilt and reinstalled in place. It was badly leaking by the torque seal and the pump.

Few days later, it starts to leak again...this time by the pan's gasket. Went back to the garage, they have put another gasket on the pan. Few days later, it starts leaking again....less then before, but there's still oil on the floor.

Any idea what could be the problem ? Is it a common trouble on the TH-350 ?

Originality / Air filter Decal and Evaporator decal
« on: May 14, 2016, 01:34:29 PM »
About the air cleaner Decal ("Keep your GM clean". Which one should be the right one for my car ? I do have a 69 RS with LM1 350/255 ?

Camarocentral shows the CQ decal:

Heartbeat shows the CN decal:

Rick's Camaro shows the CO decal:

With one to choose from the 3 ?

Now I do have an original A/C, and I know that there's an evaporator decal. I'm wondering about where to stick it. I've seem many pictures, but on my car, there's a kind of heat protection at this specific location. Any idea ?

here are some sample pictures of unrestored car I've found:

Restoration / Headlamp door not operating properly - RS 1969
« on: May 12, 2016, 01:49:30 AM »
I had my car restored last winter. All the piping/valves are new for the headlamp door operation. I recently bought an NOS switch no 1995191. Now when the switch is pull out completely, headlamps+Fog lamps switch on, but the doors close, when I push the switch to OFF position, then the headlamp door opens.

What can be wrong ? I tried to exchange both vacuum pipes behind the headlamp switch, it doesn't work, then I tried to exchange both red and green vacuum pipe on the relay/valve under the hood and it doesn't work either.

Any idea ?
