Nope, read correctly.  I thought I'd take the time and ask if it was being read correctly.

The response I got was "one just needed a little more clean up than the others"

I guess one can sleeve it back to 30 over

Gary... Sorry I missed your previous post as I asked also   ;D

General Discussion / Re: Real 69 cowl hood or a reproduction ?

I've bought numerous hoods over the years and had to repair them because people are compelled to stand a hood on the corners. A hood will stay upright if stored on its side.
Scott, much appreciated for pointing that out.  After I pulled them out I rotated them to their sides to clean the edge looking for the stamp.  I left them on their sides, thinking "boy I don't want to bend these corners in".  So yes they all set on the flat sides.  :)

Darrell, Can't rule out hood was replaced? Any signs of a collision? Or hail?
Bentley,  None that I can see.  Unless someone popped their big ole behind on the orig.  But all looks to be original.

And to add to the mix ... These are pics of my flat hood.  This is to be my original hood to my Z and the dusk blue paint can be seen under the repainted white.  There's no "week stamp date" on my flat hood as well.  Which lead me to asking if it's possible that a line hood was never stamped ?

or have hoods been stamped further up than the lower corner ?

Thanks all

General Discussion / Real 69 cowl hood or a reproduction ?
« on: November 26, 2016, 07:14:37 PM »
This past June I too answered a CL's ad about a 69 cowl hood.  The seller stated he wasn't a Camaro guy and he wasn't sure if it was an original or reproduction but to come look at it and I can decide.  He received it in trade for some work he'd done and it had been hanging in his detached garage for nearly 25 yrs.  I haven't really ever paid attention to what a reproduction looked like but for his asking price I thought I couldn't go wrong either way.  He was asking $120, I got it for $100.

I read over several other cowl thread and from what I've learned ... It has the standard notching (rear side corners) that a real GM cowl hood has but no "week stamp date" on the drivers rear side metal.

My questions are ... does it appear to be GM original ?   and If it's a GM hood, does the lack of a "date stamp" just mean it wasn't a line production hood or could there also be a chance that a line hood was never stamped ?

John welcome to CRG and congrats   :D

Sharp looking car if it's the correct one I saw.  Add some pics if you can, specially the trim tag and drive train numbers.  The trim package was added (not factory on X77's), has standard seats with deluxe door panels (one or the other is wrong).  May have been over restored as it has a collection of odd option...IMHO

It's been at a few other auctions as well but never sold.  Mecum Houston 2013 $70K and Leake Tulsa Ok 2014 $68K.  So considering the past you got a better deal.

Go ahead and convert and enjoy it

The power of the web and a car (Camaro) !  How it bring us together though most of us have never met one another.

I echo the same thoughts as the rest.  Wishing you a speedy recovery John Z

Could be an honest mistake on the VIN - 123677N213490

Doesn't appear to be a mistake.  This ad even stated "an original SS 396 Convertible Camaro, it is NOT a numbers matching car and was not originally a Pace Car"

Looks like you need to decide what you want first.
X2,

Whitedog, Don't take this the wrong way, but more of a "Please be careful".  We welcome you and others into the hobby and in the same breath we don't want you to hate the hobby as well.

You're all over the board and have spanned all 3 years of the first gens asking if the price is fair.  There are several variables that will play into ones true value.  Such as originality, options, was it wrecked or rusted away and then re-bodied, are the trim tags fake,  does the VIN and the trim tag align correctly for the production date?  I'm just nipping at a few of the things that can turn a picture perfect beauty queen 1200 miles away on CL into a real wallet cruncher.   Then in return leaving a bad taste for you and the hobby.

Your going to continue to hear the same words uttered thru out after every pic and price you post here at CRG...."Looks good for the price", "Go check it out", "Seems to high", Beware of this seller"..ect.  But until you know what your looking at your going to be at that the mercy of the seller.

IMO you need to figure out which year you desire the most and learn about it.  This (CRG) is by far the most well educated group and website for that learning.  Have you read all the data given by CRG on the home page ?  If not this should be the first and for most thing you need to read, a great start at understanding what your about to buy.  Do you know where most of the common rust issues were in these first gens?  You need to know this so when you look at one you can decide whether it was fixed properly or not.

And lastly....Stay local or within several hours of a drive at the min.  No sense shopping 1200 miles away and spend lots of money to see a huge disappointment.

Good luck  :)
