General Discussion / U.S. Marshals Auction Claims to be a '69 COPO
« on: October 17, 2019, 08:27:45 PM »
Discovered this on Apple Auctioneering from the U.S. Marshals.

Thought it'd be of some interest.  Claims to be a '69 COPO 9N635549.  I believe was last sold at Barrett-Jackson (AZ) in 2017 for $155K

Does anyone know more about this car ?

Sounds like he's not budging off his price on this one at $27K.  Or $32K strong with the NOS parts stated.

VIN looks like 9N638425

General Discussion / Real 69 cowl hood or a reproduction ?
« on: November 26, 2016, 07:14:37 PM »
This past June I too answered a CL's ad about a 69 cowl hood.  The seller stated he wasn't a Camaro guy and he wasn't sure if it was an original or reproduction but to come look at it and I can decide.  He received it in trade for some work he'd done and it had been hanging in his detached garage for nearly 25 yrs.  I haven't really ever paid attention to what a reproduction looked like but for his asking price I thought I couldn't go wrong either way.  He was asking $120, I got it for $100.

I read over several other cowl thread and from what I've learned ... It has the standard notching (rear side corners) that a real GM cowl hood has but no "week stamp date" on the drivers rear side metal.

My questions are ... does it appear to be GM original ?   and If it's a GM hood, does the lack of a "date stamp" just mean it wasn't a line production hood or could there also be a chance that a line hood was never stamped ?

General Discussion / Chemical Dipping vs Blasting
« on: February 07, 2016, 08:05:50 PM »
Ok,  I'm finally getting some breathing room here and I'm about to start on the Z this summer.  Many of you already know this Z but I'll post a few pics pertaining to my question so you'll have an ideal of it's condition and what my goals are.

I have all body panels (not shown) and they're in excellent condition.  The hull is my main concern.  I plan to keep with ZERO intentions to ever selling.  So I want to do this once and once only.

So...should I have chemically dipped (Not an acid bath) or media blasted ?

I know blasting will not get all the hidden areas AND possibly warp the metal if not done correctly.  Thus also leading to it rusting from the inside areas such as the frame rail, shoulders and rockers.

I know a chemical bath will basically bring it to bare metal and a clean palette to start with.

The cost is minimal between the two and there's actually a place a few hours above me that's been dipping since the 70's.,d.dmo

I'm leaning 99.5% towards dipping.  Is there any reason not to dip ?  Is there any hidden sealer that was put in during the process of welding the body together at the factory and would require metal removal to replace the sealer?

Dipping also requires the removal of all aluminum parts.  This would mean removing the VIN and cowl tag which I'm not a proponent of.

I fill like I'm in between a rock and a hard spot if I dip. Seems like the best method for total care of the metal yet would I be hurting it's value if I remove the tags only to reinstall afterwards ?  Of course I'd fully document and have numerous pics of the tag removal process.

Suggestions please

Thanks all in advance

General Discussion / 1969 Camaro Convertible Firewall cowl project

Anyone in need of the entire cowl clip?  Best jump on it now before it's to late  ;D  But first run to your favorite bank and take out a second mortgage !  :o

One can only imagine what he'd want for his parts when he's ready to sell them...YIKES !!

Originality / PB Booster Hose Support Bracket
« on: July 21, 2015, 02:25:45 PM »
Awhile back, going thru some parts I discovered I had another brake booster hose bracket.  I compared it to my original bracket from my '69 Z.  To my surprise it's a dead ringer in every way, shape and form.  Even has the little tab at the top (near the hose hole).  EXCEPT,  it doesn't have the "AAC" stamp on it.  It even carries the same corrosive look as my Z's.

I've never seen a repop look this good and it looks to old to be a repop.

Could this still be an original bracket without the "AAC" stamp ?  Were there also multiple suppliers for this bracket thus not having the "AAC" stamping ?

In the first pic you can see the bottom is my "AAC" stamped bracket.  And if I didn't indicate which was the AAC stamped bracket in the others,  I don't think you could tell which is which.

Thanks in advance

General Discussion / Trim rings and center caps
« on: June 29, 2015, 04:14:27 AM »
I don't mean to beat a dead horse on trim rings and caps but I wasn't sure whether to start a new topic or add to my previous thread since it pertains to my 69 Z  03B build

Please move if necessarily better.

I pulled my center caps out after reading several threads in reference to them.  I never gave them much thought as to being correct or not as they all looked identical at first look.  I'm missing the original rings but believe I have the original caps.  So I figure I'd post pics and get your thoughts.  Three of the four caps have a "double rib" on the inside and one has only "one rib".  But all have the same part number or what appears to be the part number.

I'm also in the market for original trim rings and from what I now know they should be with the four black clips and complete oval valve stem hole.

Thanks all in advance  :)

General Discussion / Another Caveat Emptor
« on: April 09, 2015, 03:53:17 AM »

Bad written all over it !  Bad description,  Repro T.T., Rear date, Trans date and Engine VIN stamp ?   Not sure where they got BU10A for the rear.  I'm seeing BU0610G1 and description states date as "L 289" (cast date).   Am I seeing this correctly, a June stamp with a Dec casting  ???  and a 70's dated Trans.

Originality / 69 Z Harmonic Balancer or not ?
« on: March 20, 2015, 09:47:06 PM »
Hey guys,  Looking for answers.  I have a chance to grab up this balancer for peanuts.  Basically the guy was gonna pitch it.  Said it was off a 69 Camaro engine, all he knew.  I also grabbed up a set of flawless #3932418 valve covers for $100.  So now this has me wondering.

The balancer has all the making of an original Z balancer except I can't find the 7708M stamp anywhere..notta  ???   It's 8 inches in diameter and 1-3/4 wide, has the offset timing index mark to the keyway also.  Doesn't look like a repop either.. at least not like all the ones I've seen.

What is it or could it be to and is it worth anything ?  ???

Thanks in advance for opinions

General Discussion / Where have all the RS SS's gone ?
« on: March 13, 2015, 04:48:36 PM »
Here's a few hidden gems (6) just collecting dust, but at least they're inside from the weather.  I was in a warehouse district running an errand when I was told about these Camaros.  So I made a visit,  this is what I saw and was told per owner who's now in his 70's.  He bought all of them during the early 70's (71-73).  All supposedly matching numbers front to back and all original and untouched except for the (1) 68 that had front end damage (reason for the orange nose).  Six first gen true RS SS's stored away for the future..future what?  not sure as the owner told me he has a no plans to sell.   :(

Red '67 RS SS Coupe (was told it has every available option)
Orange nose '68's RS SS (top rack) and a Red 68 RS SS below
Blue '69 RS SS 396 Big block Convertible (top rack)  If I recall the Camaro below was a 71 or 72 Z
Reddish Primer '69 RS SS Convertible (top rack)
