Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Firebird and the Trans-Am series

I worked for a Canadian GM dealership back in the sixties and trust me there never was a factory built Firebird with a Chev engine but I guess the overworked tech staff decided to let it slide. In my opinion the Firebirds were not that well prepared and needed all the help they could get.

We ran our 1967 Camaro at Sebring and in the Trans-Am ............... As far as I know all the competitors ran stock A arms with solid bushings and we had an 1 1/4 " stock sway bar Corvette aluminum rad and aftermarket oiling system

After 1972 Trans-Am series was winding down so we sold the car to some local stock car racers, in hindsight not one of my sharpest moves................. Probably almost as bad a move was trading the intake manifold for an oil burner, I think they go for around $25,000 today, the manifold that is not the oil burner.
The good news gas was cheap in those days and the other thing that helped was the track supplied us with free Sunoco racing fuel so some of that usually found its way into our Nascar refueling cans for the trip home.

Just a quick response from a newby ..............I would have to disagree with Johns comments about the performance of Cross Ram manifold. We ran the manifold on our 67 Camaro in the Trans-Am series and although we didn't have a dyno we found the manifold to give us a real power boost probably at least 50 H.P.
Here is a link to my partner Dennis and I putting the finishing touches on our 302 race engine that we ran circa 1969.
By the way the complete set up with carbs cost us around $500 back in the day
