General Discussion / Re: Carlisle

I am an hour and a half.   Now it is the electric scooters in the way.  I realize some need them but it is out of control.   Long after they announced no moving vehicles, I had a truck come down a row at me.   I just do not bother getting out of the way.   But at least we still have it to go to.   Guess I shouldn't complain.  I do look forward to going.   Parking $10 and $7 admission and get to see some old friends.

Went to Carlisle yesterday.   I was glad I attended with my Dad and uncle.   I love spending time with them as they get older and dad is going to have back surgery that will ruin his summer.  The show was well attended by buyers.   But lots of open spaces and just items that belong in antique shops.   They were talking on the PA about filling out a questionare on how they can make the show better.   My thoughts have always been to have car parts.   It has lost its magic and I just do not know if it will ever come back.  I was  sadly disappointed.

Making money is the goal.   But after all these years I see certain people I know are looking for a buy to flip.  One is a guy that sells intakes, and one is a Camaro parts dealer.   I tried to buy an item off one and made an offer.  You would have thought I shot him.   Folks like that are the reason I want mess with high end parts anymore.   I make more selling nickel and dime parts.   It cant be avoided.  The guy who left my tag on just flat out lied to me.   I have learned over the years.    I just chuckle to myself when I see them.

Being a long time fan of the Autofair. I learned that a lot of dealers go very early and buy parts and cars from people who do not want to stay until Sunday and try to resale them during the weekend. I think that is what started the rule no open titles allowed. You used to find some good deals but most sellers now know what they have. In 94 I bought a 69 vert with a 350 auto and air with the protecto plate. Looked like brand new. Got home decoded the plate. 6 cylinder 3 speed car.

I call them "vultures".   They used to attack me before I got my stuff out of the truck.   I know most of them now,  so I do not bend on price with them.   I had people go through my boxes still on the truck.   I have even seen my parts for resale with my tags still on them.    Most of thr time I think to myself at least I sold the item.   Now they can take it home

I sold NOS RS headlight door covers for a 68.   That was all the NOS stuff.  I sold 2 cranks and some heads.   Sold a fair amount of small parts.   Turned out good,  just had a great time with family and friends

Charlotte smokes Carlisle.    I stopped going to Carlisle for over 10 years and just went to Charlotte.     Everyone is so nice.  I bought an engine there and explained it to the people at the gate.    Asked if we could QUICKLY pull the guys truck off to the side get it off and onto my dolly.  After I exlpained, the motioned for a guy to come over.  He was on a golf cart.   They told us to pit it on the golf cart.    They took me to 3 feet from my truck tail gate.    Very unexpected service and VERY  greatful.   You  don't get that at Carlisle.

Yes sir.  FG on the corner.  We got rooms just a short way up 77 this time  so we were all together and not in a dump.    My dad is having back trouble and having a hard time walking but it will not stop him.  The oldest guy will  be 77 and gets around the best
