Maintenance / I always wanted one of these!
« on: June 10, 2015, 10:53:50 PM »
No, its NOT another car, but something kind of cool, well for me anyways!  If anyone is interested in getting the radiator drains that the "ears" point in the direction of the engine, look at the older model John Deere tractors.  I have one I'm parting out and lo and behold here is the radiator drain that everyone says to be "correct?" for my 67.  Most of the repos point in the wrong direction.  This one even has the number "94" on one ear and the "W" in an enclosed hexagon on the other, which I read somewhere to be correct..    This was on a John Deere 2640 if interested.  Opinions please?  It works for me.  For some reason it "forbids" me to post any pics of it.     Now to get the rest of that green paint off!

Originality / Re: 67 Van Nuys standard seat belts

Yes Kurt, it does.  The rear belts should probably be deluxe as well.  Although I thought I read somewhere that if it had a deluxe interior, then it could be ordered with either standard or deluxe belts?  I do like the looks of the standard belts better tho.

This is an interesting topic for me as well.  My 67 LOS 03C (765-Z) car has two different kinds of belts.  One set probably not being original.  It has the deluxe interior but in front it has the deluxe metal buckles (7036 carriage symbol model 127) dating 2E67 (Hamill) and the rear buckles are the standard type (black with GM mark of Excellence) Irving IC4500 dated 4 A 67.  I do think the black buckles look much better on the black interior.  Hopefully these dates can help some.

Originality / Re: A question about the AM FM radio
« on: May 24, 2015, 10:04:16 PM »
Thanks Rob, that's what I have been trying to find out.  If it was supposed to have one or two rear speakers, and which side.  I would be just fine to hook up one rear speaker and a front one like it maybe should have been.  I have found that the rear speaker(s) were grounded behind the rear seat somewhere with one wire going to the radio.  Looking up under the dash, it looks like someone did their own version of wiring.  ??? I may have to pull the radio and find out which color coded wire goes to which speaker.  I'm sure the radio should be grounded as well.  As for now, I will have to make some sense of this.    Does anyone where I can find the shelf speaker covers?  I don't like the ones that are in there now.  Thank you for your help!

Originality / A question about the AM FM radio
« on: May 24, 2015, 02:07:24 PM »
Hey guys I have a question about my old AM FM Delco radio in my 67.  Right now there are two rear speakers mounted in there (someone mounted Kraco's back in the day) and one speaker in the front.  The front speaker must not be hooked up because its not working.  I'm assuming that this was a mono set up at one time?  There are no kick panel speakers.  The front speaker is there, but from what I can see it is not hooked up.  I cannot seem to find anywhere that there was supposed to be just one speaker in the rear or should there be two?  There are two cutouts for the speakers (trunk view)which appear original.  Since this would not be stereo sound, would they have still hooked up the one speaker in front along with the two rear?  Thank you for your help.

I got my NRCS "official production date" and the name of the dealer my 67 RS/SS 03C was originally delivered to, in the mail today.  I was kind of excited waiting for it to come the last few days. It didn't take long at all.   Here are the results.  I knew the start of production was the third week of March.  The production date stated 3-22-67.  The original dealer it was delivered to was Connell Chevrolet in Costa Mesa, California.  Dealer code was 125 in zone 20.  Now I can look for more info on the car.  Does anyone remember this dealer?  Any help would be appreciated.  Now to check out those dealer zones etc. and what happened to the dealer.:)

I finally got around to crawling under the 67 to find this info.  Hopefully it is helpful.

Here is what I found:

1967 Camaro RS/SS 396 BB with 400 TH auto.
LOS car built 03C third week of March 67
driveshaft length from center yoke to yoke 50" or very close to it
attachment to pinion yoke with straps  - injection on other joints
Code on rear axle is Q W 0 ? 0 7 G 1 (the 4th digit is hidden behind axle clamp, I wasn't going to move it)  It seems that these numbers were more left on the axle than in the place that is stated in the pictures.  I had a hard time finding it till I looked and wire brushed it more to the left.
I found 2 paint stripes on the shaft,  From the front to the rear appears to be orange and the rear possibly green?  but i am somewhat colorblind in that color!  Spaced about 6 inches apart and about an inch wide, more near the front.
position of the u joint flanges are "inline".

Hope this helps you all.

Research Topics & Reports / Re: Gas tank date codes

Not sure if it is relevant anymore with all the gas tank codes already in the database, but I got finally around to looking at the gas tank code of my 67 03C today and found 11 N 7 on the tank.  LOS built car, built 3rd week of March puts it right in a few days before assembly the way it looks.  Also, the tank is painted black (looks like factory as this car has a lot of originality to it.)  I see someone already has the same numbers in the list.  11 N 7 would be 11th week of 67 night shift I believe?  Just my 2 cents worth without inflation!  :)

I often wondered about the gas cap as well.  Just "SS."  Not SS 396.  I wonder back then if many drivers knew what the blacked out tail pan meant?   They probably figured it out when they seen it "ahead of them" down the street. Lol!  ;D

My 67 (3rd week of March) LOS car does have the same part numbers as you have but also has some remnants of yellow markings on the top side of the motor.  The very first number appears to be a "3" then some spaces (probably washed off) then the very last number which looks like a "6" or possibly a "C" but that wouldn't make any sense to be a C.  That is all I have.

I believe that because there were not as many 396's put in the Camaro's at that earlier time of the year, that it might be the reason that the engines sat for a while before they were needed.  Small blocks were more commonly used, therefore they didn't sit too long.  Maybe a couple of days or a week or two?  I would think that as the year progressed and the demand for BB's increased, maybe the BB's narrowed the time spent sitting before they were mated up to their prospective cars.  So what Big Iron stated would be correct.

The dipstick top and tube assembly on my TO131MZ 396 (03C) has definite black paint all the way down.  This has never been out of the car and neither has the engine.

I might as well throw my 2 cents in here as well.  Looking at my TO131MZ L35 Jan. 31, 67 dipstick, it looks exactly like Mike's TO214 MZ dipstick with the same bends.  (Top picture in his post.)  As well as the same markings, no lines just 2 dots with the "M" that looks like an upside down "W" and measures 18 and one eighth inches from the top of the "bell" to the add mark. Unfortunately the button is missing.  The top portion is painted black.  Don't know if someone did that or not but it looks like it has been there a very long time.  I wonder if there were differences in the MZ California A.I.R. verses others?
