General Discussion / Moving Day
« on: May 04, 2014, 01:51:41 AM »
A huge day for me. After 28 yrs of sitting in one place with nothing but a car cover on it My Camaro has moved to the concrete pad where I will undertake the restoration of 124379N640310. Getting a car with no power or brakes up on a trailer was a huge undertaking.wife was helping  with come along and chains pulling car onto trailer.Got hit by a car while walking in WallyWorld (Walmart) parking lot in 07 ,heart attack in 13 and almost got ran over by my own Camaro today! Going to get 4 new jack stands and get it up on them to start .Im sure I need new trunk panel ,will find out tomorrow how much more of floor pan will need replace. This will be the first time I have been underneath since about 1986 when I pulled gas tank cause a guy at the stoplight said "man your gas tank is hanging down on one side". Started taking pics today ,still don't know how to post pics but will learn someday. I am stoked . Standing in the garage today Looking at the back seat of my Camaro. Talk about memories!  Well I just had to tell somebody.will need lots of advice and support,a ton of cash ,and a lot of busted knuckles, and a considerable amount of luck.

Originality / Re: 69 tilt column research looking for original info
« on: March 20, 2014, 11:17:59 PM »
As I stated earlier,a little stupidity will go a long way. I am now afraid to go look at the supposedly "original" tilt wheel I bought and installed in the early 80s. I will blame this on Al Gore for not " inventing "the Internet earlier. Yes that's it,that's why I screwed up an original 1969 Lemans Blue X-55 SS 350 by turning it into a White Z 28/RS. There was no Internet ! Now you guys make me feel like a real idiot. Thanks to this site and all you guys for putting me on the right path to a correct restoration of my Camaro! Good luck to all on your projects!

General Discussion / Re: CRG etiquette concerning parts on E Bay
« on: March 13, 2014, 12:49:57 AM »
Thanks ,I am looking forward to collecting the rest of the parts to start my resto on my car. I will have to pay someone to do the body panels and trunk. Even though I am almost 60 I can still handle the mechanical part of the job ,I can also do a lot of the interior myself. My plan is to reuse all of the interior except the headliner carpet. Will know more when I get the carpet out. Glad this site and members are around for good advice. I can avoid  SIS ( self inflicted stupidity) this time on the resto! I will get my son to show me how to post pics'. I live out in the country and have a slow Internet .Thanks to all.

Going to reuse as much of my Camaro as possible but will have to buy what Parts for Cowl Induction that I don't already have.decided to go with ZL2 for resto as I have so much NOS Parts for this. General Discussion / CRG etiquette concerning parts on E Bay
« on: March 10, 2014, 02:37:48 AM »
Hello all, newbie here trying to collect original parts for my 69 X-55 correct restoration. If I see a part on E bay that claims to be original and no one bids or buy it now / make offer and it is relisted should I consider that a bad sign ? HBC has the same item at 3X the price. Should I post the E bay item # and seller in a public forum and ask what the CRG members think about the part or should I PM someone and ask for their opinion about the part. Just trying to do the right thing and not make to many mistakes and making someone get a case of the a$$ . Ialso  don't want to spend big $ only to be told I bought repro/incorrect parts. What should I do about a potentially awkward situation like this. Thanks in advance for all who reply.

General Discussion / Re: CRG t-shirts - How to order
« on: March 09, 2014, 08:53:22 PM »
As a newbie , I would also like to buy one or two. I didn't start researching my Camaro till January and I read this post and thought that you couldn't get any more T shirts. So how about it guys ? Is there enough interest  in T shirts to maybe restart this thread or run a poll to see how many would like to get some more printed up? Or could it be like my high school prom and maybe someone would rent me one to wear at Charlotte this year? Size 2X please!!!

General Discussion / Re: Strange Coincidence
« on: February 28, 2014, 02:58:11 PM »
The longer the story the stupider it gets. I got rid of the SS front clip, car was Lemans Blue with Blk Vinyl top. I always wanted a White RS/Z28  so I also have a full set of Z/28 emblems. I went to high school with a friend who by now has had 5 different Chevy dealerships since the late 70s,and is now one of the biggest GM dealers around ,that's how I got all of these parts. My Camaro  124379N640310 came with A/C,Z87 custom interior, console gauges ,clock. I didn't screw up to much interior wise if you dont count adding a remote mirror, cutting front A/C kick panels for speakers, and bought a 3position tilt wheel unit from a dealer out of Hemmings Motor for a 69 Camaro. Car needs trunk panels and rear 1/4s. Quit driving it in 86 cause trunk was rotted out,gas tank hanging down. Put it in garage,Pop backed into it and crunched r front fender and broke corner of RS grill, opened passenger door to look and folded back the front of the passenger door edge. Fast forward to today, I want to do a full correct resto for my 1969 SS 350 X 55. I know it's not a survivor or will never be original again . It does have matching #s engine ,rear end, auto tranny was changed before I got the car. Nurse said dad must have done that but she was to young to remember.I also have all of the NOS door, window, glass weather strips, chrome lovers, wheel well moldings, body moldings that have never been put on the car. This will be my last project ever and I will need lots of help and advice from this site and you guys.as I said before a little stupidity will go along way. Thanks in advance for all the help.now if I can figure out how to post pics with I pad

General Discussion / Strange Coincidence

Brother had to go to hospital yesterday, shoulder surgery.thought he recognized a nurse. He did and she came and talked to us.I bought my 69 SS x55 from her in March 79. I always thought 78 but I was wrong. She wants it back and got on my a$$ for ruining her car by putting ZL2 hood and complete RS front end on it. She was right about ruining the car ,going to cost big$$ to go back original X55. Which brings up question for members. I have original cowl hood that I bought NOS in 81 ,painted and on car. I also have theNOS throttle arm, seal, valve flap ,frame, wiring harness ,frame seal, and retainers for the flapper valve ,none of which have ever been installed on the car ! Should I spend the big$$ to try to complete a factory Cowl setup. I would need the extension, air cleaner base, switch, relay, filter lid, insulation, etc, etc. OR should I take all this to Charlotte with all of the original bills where I bought these parts at and turn them into cash and look for an original SS hood ,fenders, etc ? I know the RS stuff has to go to get back to X55 . I bought most of the RS stuff NOS also and still have the original bills on the parts ,they have been on the car since 81?. So what do you guys think I should do? Thanks in advance for all the knowledge I have gotten from here. I am living proof that a little stupidity will go a long way when I "restored" my Camaro in the early 80s

Really good questions. I am in the same place as you except mine is all matching except tranny. I bought all I could NOS in the early 80s,cowl hood  ,90 % of the cowl ind. parts,RS fenders/parts. SIS (self inflicted stupidity) set in and I sold the SS hood and front clip and put RS front clip on a original X55 SS . Now I need rear 1/4s and a full trunk and front cowl. I want American made parts on my project ,I'll settle for used, can't afford NOS. hoping some of my other stuff sells before Autofair this yr. Didn't answer your questions ,but I am waiting for others more knowledgeable to post on this. yes I am a newbie.I am the 2 nd owner of a 1969 SS X55 that I bought in 1978 that has been sitting since 1986.

Originality / Re: Exhaust Manifold #s
« on: January 08, 2014, 12:33:49 AM »
Huge thanks to Charley, got the manifolds last week.Havent opened them yet ,been raining and I was gone till January 2 ,now it's been really cold . Just one quick question . What should I do to preserve the freshly blasted surface of the manifolds.? Some type of paint, preservative ,what should I do for long term storage other than leave them in the box or put them in the spare bedroom.

Really weird ,googled the RH 3958562 #, most hits came up on a site called Fast Lane, mentioned this # a lot, says  it is for a 73-74 350 ,named a bunch of car names I never heard of,they are GM cars but all of the posters on the site are in Austallia and New Zealand? Really wondering WTF I have .Also mentions the LH part # that partially matches the partial # that I can get off of the LH exh. Manifold. Looks like this is a question for the site gurus?

R H side real clear 3958562, LH 394245 ? can't make it out ,wire brush and reverse trace with paper and pencil ,just not enough left due to rust. No complaint about cost or what I paid for . Exhaust manifolds not for My Camaro, bought as donor for parts. Brackets, small stuff that I need for my project.
