Originality / Re: 1969 paint code 52 Garnet Red, need help!

Hey Andy,

Check out reply #7 above for the PPG interior codes.  As James suggested to me before, and I suggest it also.  GET SCANS!  This process is a hand held gun to scan the original painted surface.  Be sure you use the flex agent for your dash, kick panels and console, ask about this, the product to keep your paint from flaking off.  SCANS!

Originality / Re: Intake manifold bolts/Engine lift hook brackets for SB
« on: September 18, 2016, 02:03:39 AM »
Well, let me re-word that.  Did ALL 69 Z's get the flange bolts on the lift brackets?  Some vendors and some owners insist that all bolts were the regular hex head.

Is it possible that certain build dates, or early or late factor, determine whether or not 69 Z's got flange bolts on the lift brackets?
I'm seeing some say yes, some say no?

This thread said yes.

Originality / Re: 'yellow light' AM/FM radio?
« on: September 17, 2016, 07:13:13 PM »
OK, Ya'll are confusing the hell out of me!  In the past, I have understood that there were only two radio's before JUNE!  The U63 AM radio and the U79 blue light with external amp mounted above glove box, accessed through wiper area on cowl.  This theory just flew out the window, along with the internal amp yellow light being the third radio available after June!

Mark, You mention a U69 mono AM/FM radio.  What was this radio?  What time frame was it used, (build dates)?  WAS the U69 mono option available at the same time the blue light U79 was available??  Would the U80 option be needed for U69?

Danzo, YES, please post some photo's of your yellow light system.  James, do you have any more photo's?

Ok, now we have at least TWO examples of Yellow light's with external amps in MAY!  What gives?

Hi Ed, Yes, I will hit him up for the docs.  It may take me a week or so.  It is NOR, and I think about 04 or 05, but not sure.  My CRS kicks in more often these days.

A friend of mine, here in town has a 68 plain jane with a/c, ps, bought locally with most of the original paper work.  The car is Ash Gold with 716 Ivory HT.  The dealer Invoice and the dealer order form refer to the 716 interior as Dalmation White Trim.  I have had these documents in my hands.  The window sticker may be there also.

It hasn't been that long ago, that I saw that D&R Classic had a repop of the resonator.  I think it was aluminized and how correct, I don't know.  I guess my slow to get something done ass should check on them too!

Absolutely 100% Yes.  The GM service technical bulletin dated April 15, 1969 tells all about it.

Search this forum for Resonator's on Z/28's.  There's at least three good reads on this, and copies of the bulletin!

General Discussion / Re: 302 Replacement Pistons
« on: July 28, 2016, 08:09:41 PM »
asm69, IMHO, the floating rods and the piston ARE one of the distinct sounds of the 302.  The solid lifter is the other half of the distinct 302 sound.  Changing parts could result in the loss of this legendary sound.  The 302 and other engines like the 435 h.p Corvette, you don't even have to see them at a show to know what it is, then when it come in sight, yup, I thought so.  The pressed pin Would make a lot of difference.

thanks ko-lek-tor.

so, several members were saying in other threads that they would recommend changing the plastic gear because of the spring clip breaking.  I really didn't want to spend up to $120.00 for the NOS steel gear until I had a good idea of which one was best to replace the plastic gear.  I've heard of at least three different part numbers for an 8T gear.

Since this steel gear was last used in 1967 and pressed on, and the spring clip held the plastic gear in place in 1968-9.  What lines the steel gear up with the driven gear since it does not have the spring clip to locate it on the shaft?  Anyone?

I'm in the process of gathering parts to build a 1968 3925660 M20 for an upcoming project.  I would like to replace the plastic speedo gear and retainer clip (as other members have done, talked about in other threads) with the steel 8 tooth gear as used in the 1967 010 trans.  Would I be correct with the 8T steel gear, part #3708145 to replace the plastic gear?  I also understand that 6261794 and 3924097 are replacement numbers for the same part, are these numbers correct also?  I will be using the black 23T driven gear, 3860346, for 3.73.

Are the main shafts the same between 67, (intended for the steel gear), and the 68-69 main shaft intended for the plastic gear.  Is this a direct conversion?  My main concern is that the steel gear will end up in the right spot to mesh with the driven gear, being that it doesn't have the spring clip to hold the gear in the right spot.

Since the 1968 3925660 case uses the 3884685 side cover, Does the 1968 3925660 also use the 3851326 front bearing retainer, or the 3915020?  Which front bearing retainer is correct for 1968?

Thanks,
Bryan

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Caveat Emptor...another repro window sticker
« on: June 19, 2016, 06:07:58 AM »
I noticed something very interesting about the window sticker (bogus) of this car, and the gold Z that William posted recently.  Please compare!  This car has chambered listed and the VIN is after the May 19th cutoff of around 646229!  (And, did anything other than Z's and big blocks get chambered)?  The Gold Z has a Z28 price listed of 473.00 instead of 506.60.

The main object that I would like to point out that I see, is that it appears that the window stickers were made by the same person, even though the sellers are two different people!  Check out and compare the VIN placement and fonts on the WS between the two cars.  Neither one has the NOR body number to the right of the dealer name!  Neither one has the order number to the right of Chevrolet!  Same format?  What do ya'll think?
