Original Cars and Details / Re: Amazing 69 Z/28 Survivor
« on: August 27, 2014, 04:34:35 AM »
Chick, Thank you for those new photo's.  The carb studs were an item that I've been wanting to compare from this car.  The studs with the undercut at the top seem to be original across the board and very very hard to find.  Some of the more advanced vendors do not have these studs.  I have these same studs in my intake, and know of a few more cars that have them, but many have the replacement type.  I was wondering how rare these studs actually are, or not.

Thanks,
Bryan

General Discussion / Re: Original dealer info for 1st gens is available
« on: August 14, 2014, 04:19:42 AM »
I will have to say that the production figures that Gary has been using from the CRG calculations have to be pretty close to correct.  Gary figured the production of my 69 05A Z/28 while we were sitting in the motel room at Frederick this year.  Gary came up with May 7th (127th day), using the 629 car a day figure.  I knew that this figure was pretty close as I had an agent do the dealer and production search back in the 90's, and it came back as shipped May 8th.  I just got my NCRS search back and it said the production date was May 7th!!, and was sent to C. D. King Chevrolet.  It appears this method is pretty close, as it has been double checked twice.  KERR's car was done using the same method.

Originality / Re: N34 Rosewood Question?
« on: July 23, 2014, 09:34:24 PM »
Thanks all, for your help.  I had to be ready.  The man said that it looked pinkish.  Well, thankfully he turned out to be color blind.  The wheel turned out to look about like John's.  It's gorgeous, I bought it.  Thanks everybody!

Thanks Everybody!  The wheel I have already is about the same color as John's and Austin's, and is mostly what I have seen in the past.  I have seen some examples with an orange tint.  Maybe this guy is color blind, I hope so.  I'll let you guys know how it turns out.  The wheel I have has a grand canyon crack, so maybe this one will turn out to be a good one.  Thanks for your replies, that was exactly the information I needed as to what mint or NOS wheels looked like.

Thanks,
Bryan

Originality / N34 Rosewood Question?
« on: July 18, 2014, 09:32:52 PM »
I have the chance to buy a mint rosewood that has been in storage for more than 35 years.  My question is, how much variation can be in the color of the rosewood rim?  The owner says that the rim has a very distinct pinkish tint!  I was just curious if they were more of a pinkish - orange color when new?  All other factors of this wheel are correct to a N34 wheel.  I know there is NO chance that this is a repop!  I have not seen this wheel yet, but need to be able to buy when I have the chance.   Do they all need to look like the examples in Ed's steering wheel section?  JohnZ and Ed, please give your opinion.

Thanks,
Bryan

The Parts Place in Chicago, and OER reproductions, and Heartbeat City.  Ebay is also full of them.  From what I have seen of them, they are close in appearance.  The examples that I have seen were more of a chrome finish.  I don't know if they make the original brush finish or not.

Originality / Re: Original Black Primer Underside of Body 69 Z/28's
« on: June 23, 2014, 08:55:25 PM »
Thanks Bill, Mark, and John.  This was exactly what I was looking for.  Those sources for modern brands of primers and the steps of application.  Lately, I have noticed several restored Z's with mostly grey sealer on the under side.  Of course, they would be black down the firewall, and starting under the bottom to roughly the rear of the bell housing, and then grey sealer from there on back, and then the body color over spray on the sides.  John, Was there any differences in "the way the plant did it" in any other time period, or was Bill and Gary's example "the standard" all the way through production?

Thanks,
Bryan

Originality / Original Black Primer Underside of Body 69 Z/28's
« on: June 23, 2014, 02:03:40 PM »
What is the tough black primer / sealer being found on underside of Norwood body floor pans, especially on Z/28's?  It appears to be extremely tough and is applied directly to bare metal.  The grey primer / sealer or red oxide primer is applied over this, and all underside over spray.  What is this black primer that the factory used?  Can it be replicated and acquired in modern day body shop supplies?  What has been found to be the average coverage of this black primer on the underside floor pans?

Thanks,
Bryan

Thanks Hans, I will ask Jerry what he thinks, this weekend.  I don't know if this guy would want to let it be and take the possible points loss, or spend the money to get it plugged.  Thanks for you suggestion.  Bryan

Originality / Muncie M21/M22 drain plugs (Points Judging Question)
« on: June 16, 2014, 04:27:40 AM »
If a person has an original M21 in a 69 Z/28 with a code of say P9D17B, for example.  If the lower drain plug hole has been, or were to be drilled and tapped for the Lisle magnetic drain plug, for the ease of draining and particle collection purposes.  How many points would be lost for this modification on a 1000 point system?  Would the judges think this was minor or say that an M22 drain hole should not be in an M21?  Comments Please.

Thanks,
Bryan

Originality / Re: Early 1968 Z/28 original tires?
« on: June 02, 2014, 03:00:45 AM »
In that case, did striped tires quit at the end of 1967 Z/28 production, and Goodyear WT's start at the beginning of production of 1968 Z/28's?

Originality / Early 1968 Z/28 original tires?
« on: June 02, 2014, 01:11:43 AM »
What original tires did early 1968 Z/28's have?  Is it possible for October, November, December 1967 built cars to have red or white stripe Goodyear E70-15's?  What is the earliest know Goodyear Wide Tread GT on a 1968 Z/28?

Thanks,

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Zeroing in on X code start up
« on: May 29, 2014, 05:26:05 AM »
Hi z28z11,

Just trying to learn more myself!  Would a pre X code car, such as yours, not be determined whether it was a pre X22 or X66 by being style trim group or not?  My example, An X77 did not have style trim, an X33 did.  Just because a car was earlier than the X code, did that mean the trim application was different?  It looks like to me, that if your car has style trim, it would be an early X22.  Just asking.

Thanks,
Bryan
