I saw this very documented Z on ebay.  It has 17 hours left, hurry to look!

CHECK OUT THE BULKHEAD NUMBERS!!

Listed as:  Chevrolet Camaro Z28, look for rally green / white stripes.

Last year, during and after the Nationals, I noticed several people were talking about the correct alignment of the valve stem hole of the wheel with the tire itself.  This particular topic was about a 68 Z.

Did the factory actually line up the tire and wheel?

Is this for both 68 DF and 69 YH tires and wheels?

If this actually happened, What is the correct alignment for a YH wheel and a Goodyear Wide Tread?  Was the writing on the tire at 12 o' clock and the valve stem of the wheel at 6 o'clock?  Please explain.

Thanks,

Decoding/Numbers / Help, Need crash course in 1967 4P car
« on: June 07, 2015, 06:36:52 AM »
I'm going to look at a 4P car in the morning.  It does not have it's original motor and no known documents.  I have had a self taught crash course on CRG, like just now!  The speedometer cable location is about all I've found so far for signs of L48.

How is the best way to tell if it is an original L48 car and not an L30?

It does have:  4P on tag, 12 bolt with traction bar brkt., Muncie, tach (Don't know what redline yet).

It does NOT have:  Rally Sport, frt. disc brakes.

It is supposedly Nantucket blue with blue interior.  Don't know if it's NOR or LOS yet.

Please give me all the pointers you can.

Thanks,
Bryan

Is there a way to bookmark a thread to your profile or anywhere, that you found useful for reference?  It seems a little difficult to find any particular topic after it's been on the site for any length of time.  I have looked for a way to bookmark, but just search every time and sort thru the topics to find the right one.

Thanks,

Originality / 1969 Z28 Exhaust Beginning of Resonator's
« on: May 31, 2015, 08:31:51 AM »
I have been researching the information available for the start of resonators on 1969 Z28's.  I have an 05A Z28 in the 640XXX VIN range.  My car was built on May 07, 1969!  Did it have resonator's?

According to the recall letter, stating that Z28's produced from Dec. 4, 1968 until May 02, 1969 incorporated a regular muffler dual exhaust without resonators.

According to the price increase from $506.60 to $522.40, was this increase just for the chrome tips or resonators and chrome tips?  I've seen examples of window stickers of VINs into the 641xxx range, still with a price of 506.60.  The price of $522.40 was well into the 649-650 range.  From my research, 05A ended close to 6442xx and 05C started around 6448xx to 6449xx.

My point or question is... If the charge for chrome tips was the increase, where is the charge for resonators?

If the price increase didn't start until the 649 - 650 range, then it looks like cars built through 05C didn't get resonators or GM gave them away??

I have been keeping up with Box 198 on the Chassis BC also.  It seems that FM was used up to around the 05A range and FQ started with 05A and 05C.  Are there enough examples of CBC to reflect that FQ might be with resonators?

My concern for this whole episode is this.  If our car is built on or after May 2, 1969 and it is within this transition, will it be WRONG without resonators, or recognized as a borderline?

Thanks,
Bryan

General Discussion / Need Anti - Burn Check, Ebay smog pump
« on: January 16, 2015, 05:43:53 AM »
Hi All,

I found my perfect dated restored 7801149 smog pump on ebay, needed for my 69 Z.  This pump that i'm interested in is listed as other pumps he has in stock and is not the one for sale.  I could win the auction and he would send my dated pump instead of the one listed.  He has nice photos but does not show the back 7801149 number, and he does not show the stamp pad.  He does list that it is a 7801149.  I emailed him and ask to see photos of the stamp pad and he answered around my questions.  Has anyone dealt with Selloldparts, (John) and had good luck?  Does anyone know of these pumps as restamps?

Thanks,
Bryan

Due to the fact that they don't make things like they use to, and most cam companies have been bought out.  I ask for 69 Z owners to recommend a good poly lock that is reliable and will keep the adjustment well, and with a good quality overall.  I will be using a 140 cam and 3927142 springs and O rockers.  Please give your suggestions on a good brand and the part number.

Thanks,
Bryan

Originality / N34 Rosewood Question?
« on: July 18, 2014, 09:32:52 PM »
I have the chance to buy a mint rosewood that has been in storage for more than 35 years.  My question is, how much variation can be in the color of the rosewood rim?  The owner says that the rim has a very distinct pinkish tint!  I was just curious if they were more of a pinkish - orange color when new?  All other factors of this wheel are correct to a N34 wheel.  I know there is NO chance that this is a repop!  I have not seen this wheel yet, but need to be able to buy when I have the chance.   Do they all need to look like the examples in Ed's steering wheel section?  JohnZ and Ed, please give your opinion.

Thanks,
Bryan

Originality / Original Black Primer Underside of Body 69 Z/28's
« on: June 23, 2014, 02:03:40 PM »
What is the tough black primer / sealer being found on underside of Norwood body floor pans, especially on Z/28's?  It appears to be extremely tough and is applied directly to bare metal.  The grey primer / sealer or red oxide primer is applied over this, and all underside over spray.  What is this black primer that the factory used?  Can it be replicated and acquired in modern day body shop supplies?  What has been found to be the average coverage of this black primer on the underside floor pans?

Thanks,
Bryan

Originality / Muncie M21/M22 drain plugs (Points Judging Question)
« on: June 16, 2014, 04:27:40 AM »
If a person has an original M21 in a 69 Z/28 with a code of say P9D17B, for example.  If the lower drain plug hole has been, or were to be drilled and tapped for the Lisle magnetic drain plug, for the ease of draining and particle collection purposes.  How many points would be lost for this modification on a 1000 point system?  Would the judges think this was minor or say that an M22 drain hole should not be in an M21?  Comments Please.

Bryan

Originality / Early 1968 Z/28 original tires?
« on: June 02, 2014, 01:11:43 AM »
What original tires did early 1968 Z/28's have?  Is it possible for October, November, December 1967 built cars to have red or white stripe Goodyear E70-15's?  What is the earliest know Goodyear Wide Tread GT on a 1968 Z/28?

Thanks,

Bryan

I would like to put an original WTGT back on my original YH spare wheel for show purposes only!  Please describe how to locate and decode the original date of a Wide Tread GT.  Please post a close up photo, if possible.  Is the date something the judges would count off for, if it were the wrong date for the car?  Is a repop for a spare accepted just as much as an original?

Thanks,
Bryan

Looking for suggestions and recommendations from past experience, on which vendor has the most correct and accurate deluxe comfort weave seat covers.  I ordered a sample from Al Knoch.  Although the sample looked good, I had nothing to compare to.  My butt had worn the seat slick enough, well, just say the grain was not comparable.  I wanted Al Knoch first choice, P. U. I., O. E. R. also considered.  Please give suggestions on your "been there, done that" knowledge.  The correct grain of the insert, and overall detail is most important.  I would like input on deluxe door panels also, who's got the best?  I just want this car as accurate and nice as possible.

Thanks for your input,
Bryan

Originality / Questions about "O" Rockers 3974290 for 69 Z/28
« on: April 14, 2014, 06:06:43 AM »
I have decided to go with a "140" cam instead of the "346" cam.  I have everything NOS, including the 3927142 valve springs, retainers, valves, etc.  My question is..  Are the 3974290 "O" rockers arms good enough to be compatible with and intended to be used with the "140" cam?

If a person were to build a set of 3974290 rocker arms from the current sources of NOS parts, ebay, camaro shops, etc.  Would he still get the same "O" rocker out of the current 3974290 box?  Are they still made the same, heat treat, hardness, etc.  Do the new ones still have the "O" on them?

Does anyone know if the new replacement part number of 10089648 gets you an "O" rocker?  My dealer says that the 10089648 is a direct replacement for the 3974290, but I kinda doubt it!

What aftermarket brand such as Crane or Manley, with the part number, would replace the "O" rocker?

Please advise and suggest.

Thanks,
Bryan

Decoding/Numbers / 1969 Z/28 firewall crayon marks, question?
« on: September 22, 2013, 05:22:13 AM »
I was reading some old post on firewall crayon marks from William and Keech.  When stripping a firewall and expecting to find grease penscil marks on the bare metal, what is the best effective method to strip the paint?  Some say soda, some say rubbing with laquer thinner or reducer.  What works the best without harming the expected find?

Thanks,
Bryan
