16  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: trim ring fit to rim on: January 27, 2014, 12:37:58 PM
I have the original build sheet and no where does it show what trim rings went on the car unfortunately, and I agree without a doubt that a manual should be issued and sold to the public.  I will tell you that I have received more than 1 answer on numerous parts from different judges at the same show, before they agreed on the correct part.  It is a pretty high expense to transport a car, stay at a hotel, food ect to go to the Nationals so they should design a fact book.  The Camaro Nationals is suppose to be the most prestigious Camaro show in the country and the Legends Judging the most strict so I am all for a book.

At this point I am staying with the finger clips because that is what I was told and I will post the results in June!

Lots of different opinions about trim rings.  I was just a little boy at that time so I go by what the judges at the Camaro Nationals tell me.  I also have a set of 4 clip for this car but was told they were incorrect.  Thing is the 4 clip fit much better to the rims than the finger
ones.  But once the finger clip ones are on they don't move

I will try and get a good pix of the gap and post it.  As for the 03E car, as I posted before I was told by a legends judge that in or around Feb 1969 they went to the fingers all the way around the ring do to the 4 clip design falling off.

I have original rims and trim rings and having trouble with 1 of the rings fitting the rim.  Anyone have this issue and what did you do to get it to fit.  Tried to pinch the clips but still a gap.  There is a little nipple on each of the rims around the edge of each rim what is that?

Thanks

I was also instructed NOT to clear coat the rims at all.  Used MP172 balck primer and Deltron 2000 for the silver

After speaking with a judge at the national if I remenber correctly the change of the trim rim happened around Feb 69 because the 4 clip was falling off.  I had him at my house in December and he confirmed I had the correct ones.  04D car.  Paint has cured for 2 weeks now wonder if that is long enough?

just had a set of original rims sandblasted and painted for my 69 z 04D.  Does anyone have any suggestions on installing the trim rings and center caps without cutting up the paint?  my trim rings are original as well with the fingers all the way around.  I thought maybe vaseline might help?
26  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Re: speedo clips and location on: January 04, 2014, 06:16:12 PM
Thanks. Interesting input... just for those taking their car to legends they expect to see two only.  They are located on the passenger tunnel and behind the coil. This is on a 69z 04D van Nuys build
27  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / speedo clips and location on: January 04, 2014, 04:50:50 PM
I am told that there is a speedo clip on the tunnel  ( passenger side) next to tranny and one on the fire wall behind the coil.  both should be silver.  I see 2 on the fire wall, one behind the coil and one about 6 inches towards the heater box, behind the distributor.   I do see in the manual  (M-20 A-9) that they do show total of three, one on tunnel and 2 on firewall.  Which is correcr?  I had my car inspected a short time ago by a legends judge and he says total of 2.  Huh??
