Maintenance / 69 RF brake lock up?
« on: November 19, 2016, 09:31:13 PM »
Ever since I have this car (3yrs) and have re-restored this car almost entirely the RF disc brake locks up. I 1st removed the additional distribution valve someone added when they installed the new power front discs and that worked somewhat better. I have taken everything apart and if I press more then just a bit the RF locks right up. Any ideas? Tkx

Originality / 69 Bowtie question
« on: January 19, 2015, 12:47:01 PM »
Today I found this in one of my boxes. I removed it from my 69 Camaro in early 1970 as I wanted to paint my grill flat black with no Bowtie. I notice on all the ones for sale they all show the backer plate in raw zinc plating. This is a factory original and the back has a factory flat black finish on it and I know mine is correct as I removed it from the car myself back then and has remained in a box ever since.
That all said, what do you guys think? I also notice my 2 part numbers are 3949705 and the assy # is 3943219 and I see supposedly NOS bowties on ebay in the boxes and they do not have this number?

I asked this question with a picture today because I thought it was informative and now the post is gone? What gives?

General Discussion / console gauge lights
« on: January 16, 2014, 10:09:54 PM »
I have installed the gauge tach set and everything works as it should. That said I noticed today that the console gauge lights are on when every the car is running, is that correct? I thought the lights would only be on when you pulled out the light switch?

General Discussion / Temperature sensor question
« on: January 01, 2014, 06:12:54 PM »
I recently finished my console gauges and tested everything and I thought it was all fine until I went for a drive today. The sensor that came with the console kit was too large a dia appox 3/4 dia thread and appox 1-3/4" long overall not including to top screw. The hole in my Dart Head was appox 1/2" or 5/8" dia and appox 1" long so I installed a stock GM 350 sensor. That all said once I drove appox 1mi the sensor went to red hot and I pulled over and the radiator was still cold!
First question is: Is there a difference in these sensors?
2nd If there is ,Can I use a brass adapter from 5/8 to 3/4 to make it work if I do it will be protruding outside the block.
3rd Or can I get the proper sensor with the 5/8" thread and if so where?
Thanks Happy New year to all!  Jim F

Restoration / 69 back up switch muncie using 68 parts
« on: December 24, 2013, 04:02:42 PM »
Can some one show me the assembly pin or drawing of how the 67-68 parts mount onto a 69 tranny for back up lights? The only pic I have is for hook up to the column and and have zero of those parts in my car and I have headers. So I decided to use the 67-68 assembly and wire it in vs using the Hurst set up. I just need a pic or 67-68 spec assembly page to show how it all looks and where it all goes. I got the parts from Ground up. Thanks and Happy Holidays to all!  Jim

Originality / window washer questions
« on: December 23, 2013, 03:29:36 AM »
I have no washer parts on my car but when I painted it I did install the correct nozzles. That said I presume the pump goes on top of the wiper motor? I have seen the 69 washer bottles on either side of the engine, which side is correct? I believe my power plug is still there which is rare for this car as most plugs for many things were removed as you can see buy all my other posts last week.
I have an parts order ready for Ground Up for the a.m. I assume there pump items are semi correct?
I did find a NOS pump on ebay so I know thats USA made anyway.

Originality / upper hood spring and assembly finish
« on: December 22, 2013, 06:38:06 PM »
I serached several forums and I have a good engine bay finish scheduel and they say the upper spring is phosphate but what about the assembly it rests on? I was thinging it was like the lower assembly and the entire unit was phosphate? The repo sets are black or chrome mine is now semi black. So is the entire assembly phosphate or just the spring, adjusting screw and plate?

General Discussion / Back up light switch 4 speed help.
« on: December 18, 2013, 08:07:47 PM »
My 69  spent a lot of its life as a drag car, so when I got it I didnt know that and alot of little things were missing like my entire Ebrake cables, and much more. That all said I have no evedence of a back up light except the white lens in the tail lights and wiring to them. The assembly manual only shows automatics or column shift manual. I saw complete kits available of 67 amd 68 but not 69 that I could find. I have no bracket or wires near or around the tranny. The plug in under the dash on the column (as mine was a 3 on the tree when new) is gone so is the bracket on that said column.
What all parts will I need and where will I plug it in at? Tkx Jim

General Discussion / 69 console gauge/ tach question
« on: December 10, 2013, 05:46:37 PM »
Im now ready to start my console/tach project and my question is how much of the dash do I need to remove to do the wiring job. I have the console wire and the harness extension. Im guessing the glove box, the ash try unit. the fuel gauge so I can change to tach and maybe the dash pad? Tkx Jim

Decoding/Numbers / X Code confusion
« on: July 14, 2013, 07:02:34 PM »
Kurt had helped me a few months back with great info and now that my car is about done I was going over past info. My 69 # is 124379L501984 which indicates its very early. Made in Van Nyes in Sept of 68. That said, I have a code of X441. If I follow CRG info that means it was made the 24 day of sept,  unit number 441 that day. But according to GM LOS monthly totals they only made 2310 units that month or 77 a day. I know Im taking the month as a full 30 days but using that rationale how can my car be the 441 on the 26th day?
