General Discussion / day-2 vintage street rules/point system ?
« on: April 21, 2013, 01:21:18 AM »
Shooting for Carlisle and Maryland 2014 , does anyone have information on the judging for vintage street/day-2 and the point breakdowns ? This is the class we are building to compete in. From what I am reading it is period correct. 67-69 is 69 the cut off ?   If anybody has contact info it would be much appreciated ,I am looking for a break down of the rules.

Is day-2 , street and vintage street basically the same class ?

Maintenance / Re: Coolant drain and refill

yes,if you are worried top it through the intake ( thermostat ) replace thermostat ,housing etc... BTY if you are in the habit of draining for winterizing don't forget the heads if you aren't running an antifreeze mixture.

only thing that caught my eye was the model ,hoods hideous. And why not bring back the 302 ? I just am not a fan of the lines. Dare I say Ford did do it right with the Mustang. Not one bad angle. The way GM used to make them.

Glad to be of some help ,sounds like a really good street combo ,I like Holleys because I know them, my dad swears by that 600 edelbrock for the street ,ran them for years and currently has one in his latest project---- with those flowtech headers !  Retired industrial mechanic of 48 years ,knows his way around the shop .

Well nobody I've contacted knows---easy fix for cruising and "fun runs" sticking with my holley fuel pump along with the QA-1 shocks ,keeping. the spiral shocks and stock pump on the shelf for judged events. About that sandblasting procedure......

Thanks for the reply ,I'll try lucas restorations. I emailed Jerry, wasn't sure suggested service manual. (a few weeks ago) Called Heartbeat City yesterday ,didn't know. I figure I'm being anal but AC should be able to spec their #40725 pump.( # off the top of my head) Hey the hunts half the fun of this!

With the automatic you will have no clutch linkage issues interfering with any tube bends. I prefer the long collector over shorties ,looks more period correct ,just my opinion. And yes ,I do prefer black. For a mild street engine you do not have to shell out big bucks for a set of comp headers. Stick with smaller tubes. I recommend ceramic coating: finish longevity ,decreased engine compartment temps but they do lean it out some and you should increase the jet sizes. What ever carb you use the manufacturer's tech department can help with that. Honestly Flowtech ( holley corp.) makes a very affordable dual purpose header which bolts up nice ,good access to plugs. Out of habit I place my headers first than set the engine in but these don't have radical bends and I believe you can install from the top( take your plugs out ! ) I picked up a pair once because I just needed a lowdollar set to fire something up ,they are now on a 38 street rod pick up, sound great on a stock crate motor ,good bottom end and pulls. Also invest in a set of Percy's locking header bolts ,pricey but worth it.  Another option is just to see what the suppliers are coating and putting their name on ( jegs/summit) the bends look like hedman or hooker ,a little less on the wallet . Their are thosands of sbc camaros/novas out their with headers ,should not be a problem. Just don't overpay if you don't have to ,remember these engines are a package carb to exhaust and as long as you keep it balanced, you'll be fine.

How much do you want to spend ? Cant go wrong with 1 5/8 ceramic tuned hookers ,specify man or auto trans. Keep small diameter for increased bottom end. you can also go with a stepped header bottom end plus increased flow high r's.

Thanks ,better eyes than me ,looked twice through the manual ,only found pressure check. Did find it in my 68 motor manual range 20-30 sec/pt. general sbc, not listed specific for the Z ,sticking with the holley. Lets say 1qt per minute= 15 gph, low. Granted I don't plan on pulling 8 grand shifts ,any more, she still might be a little hungry. These were high performance engines. I'd still like to know what that particular pump was rated at . One would think in the neighborhood of the 396. I know the math lbs fuel/hp however our race car 686hp at the fly wheel sucks down about a gallon in a pass. This is all because I want to retain the original pump to carb lines ,but I'm a dragracer at heart and can't have performance suffer. Any input from the guys running the listed ac pump? thanks---steve

Cleaned the undercoat off ( yea still on it ) and found the W pass side rear but no #S, didn't have my glasses on. It'll get the lacquer thinner wipe down this weekend ,see what I find.
