mine has no backing facing the trunk area--finished facing compartment area. With seat down (back of seat carpeted) the finish is nice ,and functional , suit cases fit perfect. Nice area for a cooler ,I mean we did hit car shows and actually used the option. I will post a pic tomorrow if you want. Out of the car right now and easy.

Maintenance / Re: Oil Pan leaks... ugh..
« on: December 06, 2013, 05:11:19 PM »
Which surfaces a question I have on the "new" re-makes of Z oil pans. Un fortunately mine lost it's way at the speedshop a few decades ago. My Milodon does not leak nor did I ever have issues with a low profile Moroso I've had for years---and I changed that one on my back. Are you trading quality for "correct" or are these quality pieces ? Price does not always dictate. I'll go with a gold pan under the car vs. one that is out of tolerance. Goes for fasteners too, what you don't see may or may not be ARP.

Of course there have been a few "bolt ons" added to the 400 since it's days in the Camaro---apples and oranges!

This is the car the 302 called home for 15 years while it was in street form.

Find yourself a distributor with a 4 lobe cam (like the old Mallory Rev Pol) that I have..    no point bounce below 10k..  :)

Thanks, point bounce was a long time ago---car received a Unilite ,Promaster coil and Box in the late 80's ( the whole set up is now in a 38 rat rod pickup and still performing great) also a Rev Limiting Tac.( Sun still in the car)  CHP went through my original distributor last year. Plan on taking her for a jog once in a while---all out runs ,with the 302 anyway probably not in the future. Should perform fine.   Car did run it's best with the dual quads/Mallory. Never got an ET. Seat of the pants: 400 would have got it out of the hole.302 would have come around at the 1/8th and continued pulling it through the traps. Sorry Darrell ,we stepped all over your thread.

Couple of "Chatty Cathys" LOL.

Dad used to shift above 8 grand---and it's still here , not without point bounce. Me 7800---lost art "no lift shifts' vey sweet sound in the car. Can't beat a full manual auto with a brake for consistency (and less parts breaking) Took a set of rear gears, 3rd gear, and a pressure plate for me to finally give in. A well prepped track and good slicks took there toll.

kEEP IN MIND air tools are to increase speed/efficiency. Nothing wrong with hand tools, especially when working with small/rare fasteners on the toy.

TAC looks great--looks like your following your calling. Send me some cards.

My Sun was mounted in the fuel gauge location, by the dealer before delivery, so the story goes. Who ever did it done a good job retaining the dash instrument cover and integrating the dial indicator into it. Personally for function, prefer it on the cowl ,all my gauges found a home there many years.

What let go on those 302's Gary ? I would think valve train issues at those high R's. Did they run hardened push rods/guides , studs and girdles back in the day ? Bottom end should have took the estimated 400hp--and those block castings are pretty legendary in strength. Many a 331 used to run at the track. Well heavy pistons also. Have heard it was the "yanking" them back on the down strokes. Intake. No down force from above to help balance the load.

General Discussion / Re: Replace or not replace door panels ?

There is a 69 Day 2  COPO Nova out there that is stunning---I'm doing it with a 68 Z except shy of the fuel pump ,coil, belt and hoses one can touch everything that was actually on the car in 69-70. No offence ,may have been on the Nova  I do not know, none the less that car is my inspiration. Basically a numbers car but maintaining it's race bred heritage. And no big leap to put it back stock---one day. Along the way quite a bit attention to detail is in place to get items "correct" plus documenting.

However, still wanting, and respecting input on those panels---thanks.

General Discussion / Replace or not replace door panels ?
« on: December 04, 2013, 09:31:41 PM »
So my buddy comes over Saturday with all the OE weather-stripping , un harmed  :D and to collect a little xmas $$. Cars coming along great , looking great even in primer.

He's stoked about Camaro Nats ( 2015 I  have tuition bills) which honestly gives time for detail---so comes the question : " I really do not like the small holes used for feeding the door speakers ,not really correct , I want to weld/fill it while it's apart, but your door panels are in such great shape , I understand, but I don't like the little hole---It's your car--let me know"

Sometime between 68 and 76 door speakers were added---nicely done ,grommet--etc..  My panels still present as new. However I'm thinking lose the speakers ,shelve the OE panels and replace.  Agree or disagree  ???
