Wow--looking at it again ,really bad. Scary to think what's under the paint. Real shame there--far from a 70K Z.

Ditto-hard to kill , many 331's at the track back in the day--revved to the moon . lot of meat in the early blocks I believe. There are still quite a few out there for good prices which are a testament to the reliability. Overall #1 in my book ,plus they made a great 302 :D

I think unrestored is a great term, to the point--period. (Unrestored gem sounds pretty good in your case !)

yup, my "barn" was built in 2006 ,concrete floor ,insulated/heated with a cat on duty for mouse control. So I guess when the car is  done I should have a professional photographer shoot pics of it in front of the dilapidated one down the street, and headline it " N/E Ohio Barn Find"

I really do not mind the sale's pitch, always buyer beware, just getting way overused. Takes away from the mystic of the true ones out there ,mouse turds and all.

Must be the homeless who occupied the vacant structure took good care of the car---usually what you find in these places ,and met labs--low mileage 69 Z's are rare indeed.

Rear quarters and underneath are pretty clean for an old drag car. Funny mine had stone chips and a sheen of burnt rubber..

Mine got "lost" at the speed shop over 20 years ago--is what it is. I was switching to single pistons for several reasons at the time. Took them in with the intensions of having them rebuilt and than shelf--still have the pads...

It does look nice (hopefully it has windshield wipers by now). So in your opinion do you think it is a $88k car?

I hope he gets it.

James is a friend and is painting my X66 Convertible. He is an incredible technician to detail, especially to originality. That is what I really appreciate. It is much harder to restore to 100% original than restoring to just making it look pretty. But ya'll all know that.

yep--literally every inch of my car was shot(digital pics) by the body man(also my old friend) to match what came out of the factory when he shoots it this spring, they were not perfect rolling off the line. Would have already been done if we were going for pretty. He gets to it when he can ,and I'm in no hurry--told him we are a match made in heaven. He's getting a kick out of the 68 build manual and Jerry's book, which reminds me I need to get them back!

Decoding/Numbers / 4 piston caliper date code ?
« on: January 23, 2014, 10:34:41 PM »
Sort of an old topic ,but looking for an answer.

I spoke with Lone Star a few months ago and questioned casting numbers/date codes ? Was told this is a common mistake and no real date code exists like on a carb/alternator etc.. I know a very reputable company , and who I plan to use by either purchasing outright, or sending a set of cores in. I imagine considering they were only used in 67-68 a set for my Z would be correct ?

I agree with previous posts ,sheet metal to "do it right " $$$ >:(   Time spent with your son ( and lessons learned together ) priceless ! ;D

Word of advice: Before doing one more thing ,sit down ,draw up a plan of attack with short term goals to accomplish 1 specific long term goal based on your budget. ex: want the car in primer year one: price all sheet metal + labor/favors. Start gathering your parts , got them all ? Contact your buddy ,see what he want's you and your son to tackle ,set a date to start on the body.

year 2: interior ,glass ,misc

year 3: engine/driveline

Obviously time line increases/decreases based on budget. Take your time and enjoy the build ,do it right once ,and your boy should have a cool car to take a date out in :o ( grades permit!)--steve.

Agreed--if your into drag racing , very important car for Camaros ( and my favorite of all time Bill Jenkins 67) Win on Sunday Sunday SSUNNDAYY ! sell on Monday, how many were probably sold because of that car--not to mention the R&D that was being done by Mr. Jenkins  in head design ? Piece of rolling history. Shame on the coverage.
