General Discussion / Always something!
« on: May 25, 2014, 12:05:05 AM »
Z's back...however replacing lower control arms and half shafts in our Freestyle, replaced rear spring shackle mount in my kid's truck (back from college) Fired up the Anglia today, ran it through it's paces and heard an unfamiliar clunk in the rear end ....only made a few passes summer before last  !! Gremlins. Too much free play in the rear end I think, getting another opinion ,at least 3rd member comes right out (9 inch) Too much to ask to run  1 Gasser meet this summer.

Is it just me or is there always  some BS getting in the way of just relaxing with the Camaro ( wrenching on it)  I'm venting.

My son told me most people just ignore car problems, laughed and said " you tear right into it and correct  " Like to think I share company here" BTY how's that motor  Darrell ?  :(

General Discussion / And now the fun begins...
« on: May 09, 2014, 05:00:10 PM »
After a long winter of sitting on my hands concerning the Z ,it's coming back from paint this week. Somewhere around 300-400 pics were shot by my body man on or lack of bodywork needed ( total non OE sheetmetal can fit in my hand) and it has all been recorded in the process. Along with sheetmetal codes ,thanks for locations guys :) I like a certain white 68Z's pictorial documentry ,and will be sending you an email in the near future to get me on track with mine. ;D

Many, many hours lay ahead to get this car were I want it ,but certanily on track. That's were the fun is !

Decoding/Numbers / Carb date codes on 68 04D Z build
« on: April 10, 2014, 10:21:37 AM »
Got a line on where my original carb is....I have a feeling it's not going to pan out so have been window shopping 4053's. What would have been the earliest and latest dates that could have been used on a late April built 68s ?

Restoration / under hood finish
« on: March 01, 2014, 09:42:41 PM »
I was questioned today about the proper finish under the hood, I'm sure I read the hoods were dipped in black primer than shot from the top covering the edges with paint. Now is 30% gloss an acceptable finish for under the hood sheen wise ? Or too much? Firewalls getting shot at that.

General Discussion / Cars in action !

Anybody have pictures (present or past) of their cars at the strip? Have to be more than just a handful here who enjoy/enjoyed "dragging it out" once in a while. Fun Runs ? Smell of burnt rubber mixed with race fuel?

General Discussion / Deep Freeze in N/E Ohio, too
« on: February 16, 2014, 05:27:09 PM »
Dropped some parts off to the shop today and shot a few pics--coming along, paint this spring--right on schedule--subframe/rear end this summer. To my buddie's chagrin ,requested undercoating on sides of firewall left alone--can't see it ,I know it's there and wanted it left be. In the line up is the only cancer found in the car: lips on rear quarters, pass side rear window under molding. No surprise ,I knew. And what's wrong with resto-mods  ??? :D. Billet ,tubular A arms ,big brakes ,cool wheels, lowered--what's not to like?  ;D

Decoding/Numbers / 4 piston caliper date code ?
« on: January 23, 2014, 10:34:41 PM »
Sort of an old topic ,but looking for an answer.

I spoke with Lone Star a few months ago and questioned casting numbers/date codes ? Was told this is a common mistake and no real date code exists like on a carb/alternator etc.. I know a very reputable company , and who I plan to use by either purchasing outright, or sending a set of cores in. I imagine considering they were only used in 67-68 a set for my Z would be correct ?

General Discussion / Replace or not replace door panels ?
« on: December 04, 2013, 09:31:41 PM »
So my buddy comes over Saturday with all the OE weather-stripping , un harmed  :D and to collect a little xmas $$. Cars coming along great , looking great even in primer.

He's stoked about Camaro Nats ( 2015 I  have tuition bills) which honestly gives time for detail---so comes the question : " I really do not like the small holes used for feeding the door speakers ,not really correct , I want to weld/fill it while it's apart, but your door panels are in such great shape , I understand, but I don't like the little hole---It's your car--let me know"

Sometime between 68 and 76 door speakers were added---nicely done ,grommet--etc..  My panels still present as new. However I'm thinking lose the speakers ,shelve the OE panels and replace.  Agree or disagree  ???

General Discussion / More pics of an old Z
« on: November 20, 2013, 09:37:48 PM »
Thought I'd post a few old pics of the car I came across 70's-today. Going to get with #1 owner who claims to have some when he owned it. BTY still have the flat hood and correct front lower valiance. Some reason can not seem to find any with glass hood. Are on video.

Restoration / Great work by a fellow member

Follow up on DWCOOK ,plating. Had Darrell plate some brackets for me ,while he had it gave him the green light on tackling the horn relay. Appeared ok outside but corroded under the cap. He just sent me back the pics and I am more than pleased ! Even sent me a clip of it in operation---music to my ears. Should be getting everything back this weekend and excited to post. However may be easier if he just posts a link. Don't be modest ;)

Also have been in touch with Scott Owens of Palmetto Enterprise concerning Phosphate, great guy ,answered any questions ,and product on the way. Looking forward to getting to it ,of course got to finish some painting for my wife first !
