3  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / Re: What starting letter should my Plates have? on: February 25, 2015, 12:01:29 AM
I'm a little confused as to how they were issued. My 66 California Chevelle SS was a three owner car. I have the black plates along with the POP still with the car. They are also confirmed by old CA DMV records that I have and they start with BXP.

Danny, after a search over on TC, here is an interesting CA black plate discussion.

Hey Kurt,

Thanks for the feedback, this is disappointing for sure. I am new to this subject so forgive me for asking but are you 100% certain? Could the picture be deceiving? The PO has two independent appraisals that state this car is real... They could be full of it, just trying to cover my bases here. Also what is memorex, is that a method of restamping? I did a search but only came up with threads like "Is it real or memorex"

So now assuming you are correct how can I even tell what this motor is? It drives like a real 302 but I would hate to push it to 7K RPM and blow it because it's not a DZ... Is there any way to tell without disassembling it? My hope is that the VIN and Assembly stamp are fake and that this is a real DZ motor that was just restamped to fit this car.

Based on the condition of the car and the options I still think I got a great deal I just want to be sure what it is that I actually have.

thanks

Jeremy, watch this and you will understand Kurt's term "Memorex"

Be careful of this dealer. Here is another one they have for sale that has already been discussed.

He doesn't show any pictures of other crucial areas such as engine, trans and rear stampings. Looks like the car has been through the auctions a few times.

Yeah, I noticed that careful wording also. I think you are right, probably not the original 302.

Looks like this car has quite the reputation. William flagged this car five years ago.
I thought I smelled a rat!

15  Camaro Research Group Discussion / Originality / Shifter rebuild on: January 31, 2015, 07:25:50 PM
Rick, I recently had the Muncie shifter for my 66 Chevelle rebuilt by Old Chevy Ray out of Oklahoma. Very nice and knowledgeable guy to deal with. I was very pleased, it shifts through the gears smooth!
Here is what he advertises you will get.

"Restored-Recolored by Chevrolet Ray in Oklahoma & has been Mounted on a Muncie 4 speed Transmission, Adjusted, Checked for Proper Shift Action (Run thru Gears). Shifter Gate, Linkage Rods Assembly Restored with reference to the Chevrolet Assembly Manual Pages & Chevrolet Shop Manuals & MY GREY MATTER". OLD TIMER ChevyRay in Ok. USA. Call 405 262 4432 chevyray@cox.net

You can see before and after pictures of my shifter (link below) on my 66 build thread over at Team Chevelle. Hope this helps.
