General Discussion / Ebay 69Z beware

When I first looked at the photos in the eBay ad I was skeptical. Then I read about it over on Yenko.net.

VIN: 124379N703347

Would love to see pictures and more info/history of your 69Z if you can. Very partial to that color combo myself. I have a 1966 Chevelle SS that I am restoring at this time with that factory color combo.

General Discussion / Re: Here we go again! 68 Z/28 buyer beware
« on: June 04, 2017, 10:49:33 PM »
It very well could be a real Z/28. Its the fact that the engine was acknowledged in 2012 as having been "re-stamped" but is now being advertised as "Real deal, original engine" and absolutely no mention at all of the decking and re-stamping in the current ad that bothers me. Maybe the current owner honestly doesn't know and thinks it is as described. Maybe he got screwed... Its just another perfect example of how these re-stamps show up months or years later as legit.
With this engine being decked and restamped there is no way anyone will ever know if that is the "Real deal, original engine" or not.
And the asking price is almost double of the 2012 price. If someone doesn't do there due diligence and search the VIN, they will get stung!

Austin, are these the bolts you are referring to? Although I can't be 100% positive that they are the original factory correct bolts I feel pretty confident that they are. I removed my water pump and fan clutch because they had been replaced many years ago but the deep grove pulley and 772 fan were still there. I just soaked these in evaporust for a couple of days. Hope this helps.

A similar thread is running over on TC too. One member has reported it to ebay.

Yep, I just looked and you are right, Austin. For some reason I missed that thread.
I just remember being shocked when I saw it bring that huge money at BJ back in 2014, especially for it being a non original drivetrain car. With the sell price at $143,000. plus buyers fees the new owner must have over $150,000. in it.  :o
