Yes, factory mis-stamps happened often.

I have one that is NOS that I had to strip and look very, very hard to finally see a faint AAC. There is no way I would have even know it was there if I hadn't read this thread and seen the normal location. I just about gave up that a stamp was even there.

My heart just dropped. My JM certified Cortez Silver Z/28 is missing the original engine and is 531276. :(
So close!

Decoding/Numbers / 69 Z/28 trim tag opinion
« on: February 16, 2019, 05:39:37 AM »
What is the opinion on this trim tag? They must have forgotten about their 2016 video, they admit non original Muncie but the 2019 video and eBay ad claims numbers matching Muncie. Maybe someone can post a picture of the trim tag, I'm not smart enough.

The owner contacted the guy who wrote that Camaro book , Jerry something to come look at the car and certify it as a real Z-28 .
When I asked in my post who the "fellow" was that was coming to certify, I was hoping that would be the name. You guys are in the best of hands! He literally wrote the book! Jerry certified three of my cars a few years ago. It was a great learning experience and he is a super nice guy. Let us know how it all went along with more detailed pics of the car when you can.

Just curious, do you have a name of who the "fellow" is that is coming to certify? If they are a true first generation expert I assume they will be checking to see what all is factory original to the car such as paint, original sheetmetal, interior and especially the drivetrain numbers. Checking dates and part #'s on items such as distributor, carb, heads etc. Also confirming the VIN and hidden VIN's for match, checking the trim tag to see if it is the original with correct paint, interior, build date compared to the VIN, possible X code (depending on the build date). Checking to see if all the typical factory Z/28 assembly items are there, dual exhaust, correct leaf springs, tach red line.
The list goes on and on....

3946797 is for RPO M20 with Z28
3946798 is for RPO M21 with Z28
3950318 is for RPO m22 with Z28

I don't believe there were different numbered tags based on the rear axle ratio but someone will correct me If I am wrong.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: This stamp look original?
« on: February 16, 2018, 01:12:15 AM »
I'm by no means an expert but this assembly date stamp is 2 days before my born with block for my Z (V0528DZ)and I have been comparing them. They look identical. If someone has restamped it they are spot on. Hopefully Kurt will confirm one way or the other.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: New member trying to find out what I have- Barn Find
« on: February 15, 2018, 12:52:17 AM »
Check out this link and site for the NCRS info. There are some early VIN's that are not available including yours. That is what Kelley is referring to. "1969 Camaro 9N508855 to 9N587275" are missing and not available.
Congrats on your two new projects, very nice finds!
Just my opinion but I would definitely restore back to original the one with the original engine/drivetrain, especially with it being a RS/SS, Big Block, 4 speed, A/C car. I personally like the frost green cars with black vinyl top and the black interior. It would be a beauty!
