While I haven't found a picture of the car yet, thanks to Frank Dihartce and Jon Mello we now know what paced the 1968 Kent 300.  On page eight of the program for the race a little blurb states, "Official Trans Am Pace Car -- 1969 Mustang Mach 1"   This appears in the right column, just above the picture of the Goup 44 Triumph TR-250.   See the whole program on page eleven of the 1968 Trans Am Season Review in reply #155: http://www.camaros.org/forum/index.php?topic=10304.150

I just added the 1968 Kent 300 Trans-Am program, entry form, entry lists, pit assignments, etc... in reply #155 in this thread.
All of it comes from the collection of Frank Dihartce. Thanks for sharing it with us, Frank!

Thanks Frank and Jon.  Great stuff.  I love all the cool ads, both regioinal and national!  I especially like the '69 Camaro ad on page 3 where it says "leader of the pack."

The Flickr page of James Eugene Frank has some nice photos of the Kent 300 Trans Am race that took place at Pacific Raceways, Kent, Washington on October 8, 1967.  See them here: http://www.flickr.com/photos/leicabokeh/sets/72157600168574114    A few were taken during the support races but most are of the Trans Am race.  Enjoy!

I found one picture of the Las Vegas 350 on www.gettyimages.com.

The metadata states: "Las Vegas Trans-Am. The racing field files in to turn one at the start of the race. Mark Donohue of Penske racing will go on to win the in his Camaro Z28. (Photo by W.R.C. Shedenhelm/Source Interlink Media/Getty Images)"

I have a lot of 1970 Trans Am series footage. I will review and post any pace car footage as well so check back at that link for updates.

Thanks Steve.  Looking forward to seeing the footage.

Here are some more pictures of the 1968 Camaro RS convertible that paced the Trans Am race at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio on June 11, 1967. They were taken from a program produced by Sunoco in 1969 that chronicled the previous years Trans Am championship and the 1969 Daytona 24 hour race. I paused the film and took the shots with my digital camera.

Steve Shauger posted the footage on Youtube and let us know about them in his thread on this web site entitled, "1968 Trans Am Series Videos Penske Racing."

See the Mid Ohio segment here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CHuP24D1JB8    The Camaro pace car can be seen between 0:46 and 0:50 on the pace lap.

See more pictures of the Camaro in Reply #71 on page five and Reply #180 on page thirteen of this thread.

Thanks Steve for posting these.  I remember seeing some of the footage in an old Camaro documentary I have on VHS from the 1980's but I had never seen all of it.  I especially love the footage showing the 1968 Camaro pace car at Mid Ohio and the 1969 Camaro pace car(s) at Daytona!

Cool!  Just bought one.  I like the fact that, "these posters came out of an old Sunoco Gas Station in Ceredo Kenova, W.V."  Thanks for the heads up.

While searching through www.gettyimages.com I found a couple of pictures of the Jerry Titus Mustang that were taken at the Trans Am race that took place at Crow's Landing, Modesto, California on September 10, 1967.  Interesting sticker on the front passenger side of the car that reads "Shelby: Race Raped"  This seems to be a re-working of the "Race Prepared" sticker.  I don't remember ever seeing this before.   I certainly don't think you could put something like this on current race car, not very politically correct.  Was it an inside joke of some sort?
