I just found some really cool color film footage taken during both the 1968 and 1968 Trans Am events held at Le Circuit Mont-Tremblant, St. Jovite, Quebec Canada on July 21, 1968 and August 3, 1969 respectively.  They are posted on Youtube by someone with the name "anewcabinet."

Found a couple of interesting pictures on the Revs Institute Library web site taken at the Herald Traveler Challenge Trophy Trans Am event held at Bryar Motorsports Park in Loudon, New Hampshire on July 20, 1969.  The first picture shows a row of new 1969 Mach 1 and Shelby Mustangs in the Mustang Corral outside of the Ford tent.  On the Shelby GT350 closest to the photographer you can see a bumper sticker placed on the front quarter panel between the wheel arch and the drivers door that states, "FORD SOCK IT TO EM!"  The funny thing is at the bottom of the second picture you can see a 1968 Camaro Z28 with an altered version of the same Ford produced sticker posted in the rear window that states, "SOCK IT TO FORD."  The clever owner obviously got one of the bumper stickers, cut it in half and stuck it to his window in the altered way, leaving out the "EM!"  Pretty funny!  The only way to see these bumper stickers is to click on to the following links, then click onto the actual picture and use the magnification buttons to zoom in as close as possible.

The cover of the February 2016 edition of Road & Track magazine features the 1967/68 Penske Lightweight Camaro on track in front of a new 2016 Camaro SS.  It is promoting a 9 page article comparing the two Camaros.  I subscribe to this magazine so this might only be the cover for those who receive it in the mail and not the cover for those for sale at newsstands.  There is also a 6 page spread in their "GO" section towards the front of the magazine that features several vintage Trans Am photos.  Pretty cool!

In case anyone hasn't seen it yet, Tom McIntyre's 1968 Penske Trans-Am Camaro is featured in a seven page article in the September/October 2015 edition of Vintage Motorsport: The Journal of Motor Racing History.  As always in their Salon feature, the pictures are just fantastic.

Trans-Am Camaros / 1971 FOMOCO Trans Am Prototype Mustang
« on: February 26, 2015, 04:08:27 PM »
I found this ad in the back of the November/December 2014 edition of Vintage Motorsport: The Journal of Motor Racing History.  Does anyone have any more information on this particular car.  I know about the 1970 "bodies in white" used by Bud Moore during the 1971 series and the one just recently put together and sold at auction but I don't recall ever seeing a picture or reading any information about a factory 1971 bodied Trans Am Mustang.

The seller states in the ad that this "Mustang is 1 of 1.  Construction began at R&D department for 1971 team.  The car was orphaned when Ford dropped all racing in the Fall of 1970.  Later acquired by engineer and raced for 11 years."

Thanks

Trans-Am Camaros / 1969 Kent, Washington Trans Am Color Photographs
« on: October 29, 2014, 03:24:50 PM »
I found a collection of 23 color photos and 5 black and white photos of the Kent 300 Trans Am event held at Seattle International Raceway in Kent, Washington on September 7, 1969.  I found the pictures on Flickr and they were taken and posted by Phil Rhodes.  I will post them all here but to see larger versions of the pictures click here: https://www.flickr.com/photos/ockhams_razor7/sets/72157602224091136

I apologize if this is a re-post but I couldn't find them anywhere on this website if they have been posted before.

I am writing this on behalf of Ruben (RDF) who is the owner of the actual 1969 Camaro RS/SS convertible that was used to pace the NASCAR events at Bristol International Speedway in 1969.  Up until a month ago, I thought that there were only three surviving NASCAR 1969 Camaro pace cars.  The Daytona 500, North Wilkesboro, and Charlotte Motor Speedway cars have been restored and are known in the hobby but now a fourth has surfaced and is currently residing in Illinois.  Click on the following link to see a multi-page topic thread that I created at the Camaro Pace Car web site that includes the correspondence Ruben and I had concerning his Camaro as well as pictures of the way it looked in 1969 and the way it looks today: http://camaropacecars.com/eve/forums/a/tpc/f/3100015833/m/1651091356

I will let Ruben know that I posted this on CRG, so please respond with any comments or suggestions for him concerning his significant Camaro.

Thanks

« on: May 01, 2014, 04:14:23 AM »
I just ran across this collection of color photographs taken by Richard A. Reeves at the Trans Am races at Road America, Elkhart Lake, Wisconsin on July 17, 1971.  The pictures were posted on Flickr.  Click on the following link to see the 30 photographs: https://www.flickr.com/photos/vintageracepics70/sets/72157632790539418  Sorry if this is a re-post.  I don't recall seeing them before.

The first picture in the second row is backwards.  That is the run up to the Corvette bridge after turn five.  The first three are correct.

Trans-Am Camaros / 1971 Mid Ohio Trans Am Black & White Photographs
« on: January 19, 2014, 04:58:46 PM »
Here is a nice collection of 67 black and white photographs taken at both the Trans Am races that took place at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio on June 6, 1971.   Like the photos I posted from 1967, 1968, and 1970 these were also dispersed throughout the over 3,000 photogrpahs in the Ohio Valley Region of the SCCA's historical photo gallery.  Unfortunately, there is no information about who took or submitted these photos either.

Here is a nice collection of 17 color and 2 black and white photographs taken at both the Trans Am races that took place at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio on June 7, 1970.  You can tell that a few of the photos were taken in practice sessions prior to the race because of the data acquisition items seen on some of the cars as well as the lack of crowd in the background.  Like the photos I posted from 1967 and 1968, these were also dispersed throughout the over 3,000 photogrpahs in the Ohio Valley Region of the SCCA's historical photo gallery.  Unfortunately, there is no information about who took or submitted these photos either.

Here is a great collection of nearly 70 color photographs of the Trans Am race that took place at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio on June 16, 1968.  Like the photos from 1967, these were also dispersed throughout the over 3,000 photogrpahs in the Ohio Valley Region of the SCCA's historical photo gallery.  Unfortunately, there is no information about who took or submitted these photos either.

Trans-Am Camaros / 1967 Mid Ohio Trans Am Color Photographs

Here is a great collection of nearly 30 color photographs of the Trans Am race that took place at Mid Ohio Sports Car Course in Lexington, Ohio on June 11, 1967.  I found them dispersed throughout the over 3,000 photogrpahs in the Ohio Valley Region of the SCCA's historical photo gallery.  I thought that it would be much easier for people to view them if I put them together here in this thread instead of just posting the link.  Unfortunately, there is no information about who took or submitted the photos.  There are additional photos of the '68, '70, and '71 Trans Am races held at Mid Ohio sprinkled throughout and I plan on creating threads for each one.  Stay tuned.

While searching the Getty Images website I found some interesting pictures of a 1967 Camaro hardtop show car I had never seen before.  This particular Camaro was parked next to the Cherokee Camaro convertible show car and in front of a Z28 at the New York Auto Show in April 1967.  In the first picture you can see several unique show car items on the car including a hood that looks similar to the one on the Cherokee, aftermarket wheels with different size tires front and back, wrap around nose stripe and the lack of a front bumper.  In the second picture you can see the rear end of the show car to the left of the Cherokee (convertible) and in front of the Z28 with aftermarket wheels.  I zoomed in on this picture and while some of the letters are obscured by the rope pole, the rear license plate on the show car says "CALIFORNIAN."

Does anyone have any information on this show car.  Did it appear in any period magazines?  I did a search on this forum and it was only mentioned in one thread, and then only by name.  I did a quick search of all my Camaro reference materials and did not find anything.

Click on the following links to see larger versions of the pictures:

1st Picture: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/new-york-auto-show-a-350-chevrolet-camaro-ss-hardtop-on-news-photo/163091840

2nd Picture: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/new-york-auto-show-a-variety-of-chevrolet-camaros-on-news-photo/163091838

On the Getty Images web site the car is incorrectly identified as just a regular 1967 Camaro SS 350 in the metadata.

Does anyone know if this is an ex-trans am Camaro?  This picture was taken at the 24 hour Pepsi Challenge at Daytona International Speedway on February 3, 1980.  I found the picture at Getty Images.  The caption states, "This Chevrolet Camaro was driven in the 24 Hour Pepsi Challenge at Daytona International Speedway by Dick Neland, Bill Ferran and Joe Cotrone. The team dropped out of the race after completing 270 laps." (Photo by ISC Images & Archives via Getty Images)  The picture can be seen here: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/february-3-1980-this-chevrolet-camaro-was-driven-in-the-24-news-photo/155717880

Foreign Camaros / Swiss Assembled 1969 Camaro on Carsinbarns.com
« on: December 14, 2012, 09:01:38 PM »
I was looking through the recent additions on Carsinbarns.com and came across these three pics of a Swiss assembled Camaro in a dilapidated condition over in Germany.  They were sent in by Daniel from Germany and his remarks about the car include:

"Yes, they can also be found over here in Germany! This is an original 69 Camaro SS that was put together in Bienne, Switzerland when new. Original white 350 auto car with black stripes on the side. The pictures show its sad condition. The car was parked 10 years ago. It was a customers car and was just left there in the fields near a barn behind a shop. What I believe to be its original drivetrain is lying in the grass about 10 feet next to the car. I tried to buy the car to save what's left of it but it's the typical story. The mechanic cant find the papers for the car and the original owner of the car never returned to pick it up as you can see. But I'm trying to find a way to save this piece of American Muscle Car History."

I don't know much about these cars but I thought this might be of interest to those interested in foreign Camaros.  The original post from October 25, 2012 can be seen here: http://www.carsinbarns.com/new180.html
