Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Minilite wheel question

I wonder if it was a custom mod done for change in backspacing or offset for incorporation with the extremely wide track versus the factory tracks of the cars.

Also, in the IMSA photo, the lip of the wheel doesn't look identical to the penske wheel above.

Pontiac might have been a threat if they could have gotten that darn Ram Air V ironed out... >:(

Steve, you wrote a heck of a lot more than I anticipated, give me a couple days a week and I'll get back to you.  ;D

Finished most of the article on the Ford Galaxie racer, man...a lot of drivers died back then. Really sad to know they had a lot of life left and they went so soon. Beautiful cars.

Thanks for the astounding amount of effort it must have taken. Very detailed work!

Thank you for doing that, I actually forgot you could go to another page and use that image link. I'll do that from now on.

I believe these pictures belong here. Some car, some family stuff. All very cool.

Found pictures just now of what is my favorite (favourite?) looking T/A car ever in use, love the color scheme. But could never find any pictures. "Roll bar leans forward at top" in Ken Ulrichs words in the second post or so.

I think they are the same car

Trans-Am Camaros / Re: Trans Am racing pace car pics...are there any?

Jon, you always exceed my expectations and are simply amazing at identifying the important details, like the engine mechanic. Thank you very much for the help. :)

In addition to these photos, There was a couple '69 Firebirds--some good coverage identified as the Trans-Am Series Bridgehampton on June 22, 1969.
Many pages earlier there were mountains of pictures of very young Roger Penske doing his Zerex special in the early 60's, and young Sterling Moss as well.
Bochroch took LOTS of Gran Prix photos. Again, most of them very good.(but I know nothing of that era)

I can PM you some stuff I've come across in recent days if you'd like. (This goes out to anyone)

Thank you, Jon.

Here are some pics of the '69 Laguna Seca pace car with Ronnie Bucknum at the helm. It seems he was sufficiently
recovered from his car accident to drive the pace car, but not enough to race the #9 as Ed Leslie drove it for this
race (and finished 2nd to Donohue). These photos come to us from the Robert Lodewyk Collection.

I'm adding to Jon's Reply #202

I believe this is the same race, but there are different people driving. 1969 Laguna Seca

Completely off-topic: The gentleman who took these or is credited with them is Albert R. Bochroch, and I will post a link that shows all of Revs library of his work.
I'd like to say that he has some of the "best" photography of any of the revs library, his photos are almost always crisp and clear, and interesting. This guy was a pro!

McLaren mechanic working on a.........small block Chevy!!! https://revslib.stanford.edu/catalog/vv813km8342

Mods, you can remove the off-topic stuff if you see it necessary.

I am not sure who created this page, but it is interesting, has some good modern day pictures at Lime Rock, I hope it hasn't been posted before.

If there is any issue with this thread, you may remove it, I'm not perfect.  :-X

It's tough posting pictures found randomly on the internet, but a quick Google search of "Vince Gimondo camaro" brings A LOT of amazing photos up.

Not even sure if I'm allowed to do this, but getty has a photo of my favorite car/paint scheme of his: http://www.gettyimages.com/detail/news-photo/vince-gimondo-chuck-dietrich-drive-their-chevrolet-camaro-z-news-photo/155880095

Awesome looking car. Seen it in photos before but didn't know it was his. Racingsportscars says he raced into the late 80's. Awesome.

Very, very cool. These real race cars were imply not treated to 5-star hospitality, for the most part. Can't wait to see what they do with it.
