Restoration / Re: Reattaching Harrison Radiator Tag
« on: December 01, 2014, 03:00:28 AM »
Do you know of a vendor who makes custom tags?

Try The Parts Place, Inc. I don't know if they do custom tags, but the tag for my '70 Chevelle LS5 auto w/ A/C I bought from them was spot on. Maybe if they don't manufacture them, they can hook you up with the manufacturer they use -

Anybody have pictures of the bolts I asked about?
Thanks.

I thought my bolts were still on the frame brackets, but they weren't when I dug them out. Buried somewhere in a bucket of bolts and nuts, I'd guess. Sorry - I'll keep looking.

The backs of both bumpers were also black, I assume the base color for the urethane, or maybe painted black after the molding.
Steve, the backs of both mine are black too (or maybe a very dark gray?), but the base urethane seems to be an orange color. There's a couple of places where the original paint has cracked slightly and you can clearly see the urethane compound below. Can post a picture if anyone's interested.

I have a couple of spots where I can see the same wierd color - I guess the black was applied afterwards.

'69 L78 gas line, unmolested, clip missing (you can see the outline where it mounted to the gas line).

Line is intact, doesn't appear to have been bent or mangled other than missing the last two clips.

RE: Pad Stamp. wonder if that is the way a machine shop might have I.D.ed it?

My thought, too - I've known machine shops to stamp pads to ID blocks after machining or cleaning, or by the owner's request (old days) - I'd get hostile if a shop tried to do that to one of mine in the present, as would anyone.

Fat fingered me, not proofreading what I write - I corrected the date to 02A. My X77 is 01C - MSO was cut 1/28.

I had a picture of a DZ block stuck somewhere with a prefix code similar to this, can't remember that date of the block, but it seems the code was EGS or ECS - but I can't locate it. I'll keep looking -

I believe I would be tempted to install a repro '68 Z/SS350 chrome tube and twist on cap - always loved that look. Reasonably priced nowadays, sometimes -

With that VIN, it is early February (02A ?) - not too long after mine, a late January build.

I know that Norwood was stamping above the oil filters by late December - I have a 12/30 L78 block that is above the filter, so I know that some (if not all) were the same way at Norwood.

Font on the stamp looks pretty good, though - hard to tell about the pad deck with all of the scraping that went on around it. Jury's still hung for me -

Pics of my original inner brackets, plus a spare (since departed for a worthy car). The backs of both bumpers were also black, I assume the base color for the urethane, or maybe painted black after the molding.

Need a pic. Distance between engine assembly date and the February build for the car seems a little large, but stranger things have happened. Unusual prefix to be sure, if it's really a DZ.

Inners - my originals are black, from what you can see. The tops got overspray from a repaint in '75 - otherwise they have some black remaining. Try to get a shot of them today -

Outers - black, definitely, either semi flat or semi gloss, difficult to tell by the remnants on my originals. The VE3 was listed on my dealer invoice as " Spc front bumper"; about the only significant option on my X77 -

Apologize for the condition - maybe this will goad me into restoring it (off the car since 1980).

Steve

I've got one of the original design, but I'll have to dig it back out due to the group picture below doesn't isolate the handle with the part numbered pic.

I'll get to it as soon as I can -

Couple of things just aren't quite kosher. I blew the pic of the pad stamp up and turned it around - you get the suggestion there is something stamped to the left of the engine code, heavily, and filled with paint or something to try and mask it. Speaking of stamp, my X77 is an 01C, too - the "0125" date is getting mighty close to the build date of the car (my MSO is 1/28). He never mentions the casting date of the block, either, and no pic. Partial VIN on the trans doesn't look anything like mine, either. Pretty car, though, in spite of the flaws. Wish people would be careful with statements concerning authenticity -

Steve
