Garage Talk / Most expensive muscle car ever ?
« on: May 21, 2021, 06:58:21 PM »
'71 Cuda Hemi convertible got to $4.8 big ones at Mecum Indy just now, didn't meet the reserve yet (rumored to be $5.5M).

Somebody has money this day and time - just wouldn't give enough, unless a behind-the-curtain deal goes down.

Steve

General Discussion / Mecum Kissimmee Auction
« on: January 19, 2021, 02:54:43 AM »
I'm surprised I haven't seen any comments on this past weekend's auction, Anyone catch it ? 53 first gen Camaros, including Cliff Ernst's ZL-1 (at $825K with premium), many Z;s and BB cars. Lot of high dollar cars other than Camaros, too (including the slickest '64 Chevy pickup I've ever seen, and $80+K). I have to say I enjoyed this more than the B-J's in past Januarys -

General Discussion / 68 Convertible "with metal"
« on: August 12, 2020, 02:02:08 AM »
I thought this was on the high side of illegal - never seen one quite this blatant.

About to expire - I might have complained if I had seen it earlier. Gross -

Decoding/Numbers / Hurst levers - OE vs. aftermarket
« on: February 19, 2020, 08:09:27 PM »
Looked high and low to try to figure out the application - levers on the right are obviously OE to '69's, what are the ones on the left side for ? They are roughly the same size, same hole stamping. marked differently. Maybe later issue ? Pontiac ?

Hurst experts please weigh in -

Potential MO '68 block on ebay - stamping appears legit, early '68 678 block.

General Discussion / 1967 Z for sale ?
« on: November 20, 2019, 03:58:25 AM »
Spotted this one, wondered if it was a known car. Good looking color combo even if it's a clone - tag rivets look very new.

Decoding/Numbers / Nickey stored info ?
« on: October 02, 2019, 01:43:31 AM »
Does anyone know if there was ever any listing of any of the high performance cars sold through Nickey ? I had read somebody started a registry -

My request stems from my L78, an early production car that came out the Chicago area (registry info back to the early '70's), but unfortunately it's in the "void" with the NCRS shipping and production date info. Car is a 12A build, original block, spent considerable time on the drag strip. Assumed X66, non-RS. Sure would be a plus it it was a Nickey in my book - but it's still an honor to own a low-production numbered car even if you can't find the dealer.

Steve

I ran across this in my archives tonight, I do remember reading it over the years (and cringing every time I read it). Shoulda-coulda- woulda, hindsight is always 20-20 in vision clarity.

Check out the block, hood, intake and rear end part numbers - all at the same time. Sad -

1968 - Orphans / Muncie trans 18N3151(5?)0
« on: February 03, 2019, 12:36:23 AM »
Spotted this at the Nashville Stones River AACA swap meet today - part of a $1100.00 package of shifter, bell housing, shifter, flywheel and clutch, all of which was not Camaro except for the trans. Didn't see it listed in documentation - anyone's lost tranny ? PM me if you need it, I'll get current owner info if so.

General Discussion / VIN, TT, title posting

Thought this was illegal ?

https://www.ebay.com/itm/1969-Camaro-SS-RS/143111614559?hash=item21521df05f:g:Z6cAAOSwdwVcTfZi:rk:12:pf:0

I know this has been discussed before, and in current threads. If paired with a Dynacorn body, is it a federal or state laws that apply ?

Originality / 1968 Z28 smog pump assembly
« on: December 12, 2018, 12:57:41 AM »
1968 Z28 Camaro fiends,

I have a complete 1968 smog pump/diverter assembly that includes a spacer between the pulley and the pump. It's perplexing, as this pump/DH diverter/bracket/hoses/Whittek clamps/fittings appears to have never been apart, very pristine and dated correctly, with the exception it has a "116" lo-po pulley instead of the "522" deep groove, and it has a spacer between the pump fan and the pulley. I've read in at least one back thread about the possibility of an occasional "116" pulley making it on to a Z (parts shortage on the line ?), but my real question concerns the spacer. Considering the lower performance V8 water pumps were shorter as compared to the "326" Z water pump, did the "taller" Z water pump require the spacer (either pulley) ? I cannot find any reference in the assembly manual to a spacer on any 1968 application - hence the question.

Steve

Originality / 1968 Z28 water pump bypass fitting
« on: August 25, 2018, 07:29:11 PM »
I've searched the threads and never found a "definitive" answer - is the hex style fitting or the square style proper for a June '68 Z28 326 water pump bypass hose fitting ? I have a 1/2" NPT GM NOS square style fitting, but afraid it was released as a replacement or maybe was used on L79 motors prior to '67-'68 MO applications. Opinions ?

Regards,
Steve
