78  Camaro Research Group Discussion / General Discussion / 69 Z/28 SS Promo Pic on: March 12, 2013, 08:51:35 PM
hi, I have from the net, what looks to be a g.m. photo, b&w of a 69 camaro on the banking at the test track. the car has Z'dr stripes, SS on the grill, vinyl roof, early short rear spoiler. can't see clearly, but also looks to have Z/28 emblems on front fender. does any know this pic, my guess is it is a early pre-production prototype. unusual combo of options. any opinions ?

hi, new to this section of this great site. have been posting over on the trans-am thread. I live in ontario canada. don't know if this is the correct spot for this question ?  in 1970 a friend of mine had a 69 z/28, frost green, no spoilers & no stripes. I remember when I first saw it, I thought it had been hit and re-painted. the car came out of illinois. is there any documentation as to how many stripe & spoiler delete cars were built.

thanks, mike

jon, I have a question. back in post #55 you show the heishman '68 camaro at sebring in 1968. am I correct in understanding that this car had the drive train from your '67 ? does the '68 car still exist ?, and what drive train is in yours ? hope I'm not being to inquisitive ? I did read your tale about the '67 which was from I believe, the rich McCabe site. you are one lucky guy to have it, and a bonus find.  were there other cars that underwent the same conversion as the heishman '68 ?

  thanks mike

mike, have meant to comment on your efforts posted here before, great work ! metal is more difficult to work than plastic which is my medium. zamac is pretty fragile is it not ? I wondered if you were going to do the full length exhaust on the titus firebird. I guess that system gave better flow. I have only seen a couple of pictures that show it.

old transam driver, thanks for you reply. there are differences between the two cars. I am no expert, but from looking in period pics.  one car has the fuel filler in the tailight panel, with a vent to the left of it.  the other has the fuel filler cut into the rear spoiler and trunk, is this the car you drove ? can't post a link ! but i'm sure you know the pictures on the autocourse.ca sight. trois rivieres sept./74 with  alain. with deperez at tremblant..71. the restored ? freitas car has the filler on the taillight panel. always  a lot of questions with these cars, considering the value they now have.

sorry guys, didn't mean to muddy the waters ! after going back to roberts post on jan. 1 this year, the car went to leon alain, correct ? I was under the impression that the carter car and deperez car were one and the same. my mistake.

hi robert, what can you tell us about the ex carter 69 camaro that you raced. do you know it's history between the time you raced it and  before joe freitas got it ? deperez raced it as a  independent in 71. how did he become involved with carter in 72, when the car was sponsored by "mo". maybe jon can give us some input as well.

jon, thanks for that info on the chaparral camaros. I had seen that photo of waco doing some forest clearing at elkhart 1971, but didn't twig to it being the one of the hall cars.

wow ! thanks for that shot of sid rust in the ex chaparral camaro. it's the best one i've seen so far, other than some distant shots of the field at the runoffs in 1974.
