Foreign Camaros / French 67 Camaro with 283 Engine
« on: March 14, 2020, 04:05:57 AM »
Hi, previous post has all the car details.  In summary, through GM France to Cambodia.
Body done and being assembled and ready to rebuild engine, however some concerns now I've had a good look at it.
Car decals are 327 and assumed this to be the case, however casting number 3756519 seems to be an older 283.  On removing heads, bores are all sleeved at 3.625", stroke 3.00" for a displacement of 248 ci.  Pistons at TDC .050" above block deck. Obviously not normal so suspect work carried out in Cambodia using locally available parts.  Shudder to think what has been done internally.
A couple of questions:
1.Is it possible the 283 was original?

Thanks.  I think it is unlikely anyone would have been able to locate these in Cambodia during that period but possible I guess. Even less likely that they would have gone to the trouble of fitting it. Interested to hear if any other export cars had these.  The car does have a custom interior so is it out of the question that the factory might have put them on cars destined for export?
Thanks again.

Timmy,
My 67 has a "Custom Chevrolet" badge on the dash above the glove compartment. See photo.  Does yours?
Thanks

This is the French tag from my 67 RS Convertible, 327, powerglide.  Looks basically the same.

Restoration / Custom Chevrolet Badge
« on: February 11, 2018, 10:42:52 AM »
Hi, my 67 RS Convertible was delivered via GM France to Cambodia, so a little unusual.  It is now in Australia and I'm reassembling following completion of body and paint.  I've been able to source most of what I need from suppliers in the US, however I can't find any information the "Custom Chevrolet" badge on the dash above the glove box.  It is diecast alloy and is a bit pitted, so I'd like to replace it with a new one if they are available.  Appreciate if anyone can tell be what the badge signifies and how many Camaro's would have been fitted with the badge, as well as any advice on where I may be able to get a new one.

Thanks.

This was helpful thanks.  I was able to tap mine off relatively easily once I knew how it came apart.  I'm rebuilding a 67 RS Convertible in Cairns, where are you?

Thanks for the reply, very helpful.  I've placed a small order with Classic Industries to test shipping, service and quality.  Have you had any experience with the reproduction door shells?  Mine are reasonable but doesn't take many panel beater hours to get to the $350 price of a new shell.

Originality / '67 Interior and Engine Bay Finish.
« on: September 14, 2016, 09:18:49 AM »
Hi,

I have a 67 RS Convertible I've started restoring in Australia.  Interior code is for Black, however I'm not sure if it should be satin (matte) or gloss.

Same question for the engine bay and firewall, were they originally satin or gloss?

Appreciate any assistance.

Thanks.

Hi,

Restoring a 67 Convertible with A/C. Original unit is beyond recovery, considering Vintage Air system.  Appreciate any comments on benefits and problems with these systems.

Thanks.

Hi,

I'm looking at purchasing quite a few parts for my 67 RS Convertible to complete the restoration.  I'll have to order and then have it all shipped to Australia so will not be able to see the quality prior to order.

Major suppliers appear to be Classic Industries and Rick's First Gen, but would consider others.  Appreciate any comments on the quality of parts, price, service etc.

Thanks.

The master cylinder would be standard I believe, however the local "mechanics" would not have seen anything like this.  Carburettor was from a Russian truck, air conditioner compressor is gone, coil could be from anything and quite a few other running repairs done throughout it's life.  It has motor oil in the powerglide and it was parked up shortly after that was added I'm guessing.

Has front disc brakes, haven't had a close look at the diff but assume it is not 12 bolt with 327 and powerglide.  Will have a look when I'm home next.
