Maintenance / Re: 396 L34 hard to start when hot
« on: October 05, 2020, 09:57:03 PM »
I found a couple of sheets on hot start cranking. Doesn't say anything about the solenoid but that could be something I read on a different sheet, whereabouts unknown at this time. Discusses starter replacement.

I cannot post the sheets as file too large.

Anyone that wants copies, put in subject "Service Bulletins" and email me at keepitallgm@yahoo.com

I have around here a Chevrolet Service Letter for a solenoid problem. Engines after they sat that were brought up to full temp, were hard to start shortly after. Not sure if that is your problem, but GM solved it with a different solenoid.

Restoration / Re: 69 door undercoating/sound deadner

If you do not apply undercoat when you reskin a door, it will have a hollow tinny sound, door will not sound solid when closed.

Both caliper brackets and rotor shields had part numbers stamped into them. Your caliper could also be a late 1968 casting date.

Decoding/Numbers / Re: Z11 L78 Festival car?

Has a curved neck radiator. Wouldn't that be too early for that option?

Trans-Am Camaros / Re: James D. Patterson, anyone remember him?

Thanks everyone for all the positive comments. Research is half the fun of owning the car. The other fun half is driving it.

They had to hammer a clearance dent in the exhaust pipe, for shifter rod.

Just received two pictures today from Hugh Patterson. Thought I would share them with everyone on the site.

One picture is when the car was brand new with the window sticker still attached to the window. The picture also shows the NON-RES TRANSIT Iowa plate attached and ready for the journey back to Connecticut.

The second picture shows Jim Patterson in the drivers seat. Picture is dated June 1980, and the Z/28 has a Connecticut license plate on it.

Maintenance / Re: Rear end whine from 40 to 60 MPH
« on: September 16, 2020, 11:04:29 PM »
The only experience I had was 30 plus years ago, when we put Richmond Gears in the housing. I think the original instructions said you would hear a whine.

GM gears do not whine. Think they have better tolerances.

What make gears did you use and were they a matched pair from day one?

General Discussion / Re: YH Rally Wheel Date Needed
« on: August 24, 2020, 12:04:25 AM »
You have the same dilemma I have. I had one wheel on the Z/28 that was either January 26 or 27. I thought the same thing that it might be too early. Probably will do the late dated Jan rims unless some other cars show up with later dates.
