Links help, so members know exactly what Camaro you are referring to.

Hey Tim, great picture find! I like the "CAMARO" lettering on the front spoiler. To solve your dilemma over restoring it to original or in its race colors, how about you paint it all original. Then get the vehicle vinyl wrap for the sides of car showing the way it was raced. Then you can always remove the vinyl and you are stock again. Just a thought.

1968 - Orphans / 18N437938 Muncie case on eBay
« on: January 23, 2019, 03:45:24 AM »
I emailed the seller and he gave me the VIN off of tranny case which is 18N437938.

Went to VinAudit.com entered the VIN 124378N437938 and they have history on the car.

The letter Z on the other VIN on the trans is for the Fremont plant in California which built Chevelles and El Caminos. I guess we can determine it is a Camaro VIN restamp and the trans build date is a bit early for that late build of Camaro.

Off topic, most annoying seeing crossmembers in backwards.

All Muncie main cases 3925661 have a drain plug even if it is not an M22. All late build '69 Camaro's would have this case.

William, that is the other spring I was thinking of 3925814. That and 3955720 are the only two springs I have ever seen on a '69 Z/28. The 3925814 spring I have seen them only on RS, Z/28s.

I have only seen two different front coil spring numbers. I only can remember one number which I believe was used on most '69 Z/28s. The number is 3955720.

Wonder why the metal dash was replaced on such a low mile car?

General Discussion / Re: Factory Production 69 Camaro JL8 L-78?
« on: December 14, 2018, 05:43:12 PM »
Would need to have someone knowledgeable about JL8 to inspect the 396/auto car. Back in the seventies era, there were plenty of disc brake rears that were pulled out of wrecked cars. The front parts are far more harder to find than the rear ends, as no one realized the front JL8 disc parts were different than standard disc brakes. That is why an inspection would be needed to confirm the 396/auto is legit.

The two Indy 500 track cars, the one that paced and the backup car both came with L89, JL8 and F70-15 tires.

Update...

Was just corresponding with one of the owners of the Pace Car track car. From what he understands, after the two Pace Car track cars were completed on the assembly line, they were shipped to Chevrolet Engineering where the JL8 parts were installed. So, I guess these two cars cannot be included in the 206 JL8s produced.

I only checked Chevrolet Parts Books. Not sure if the '116 pulley is used on other GM models.

In the parts book, it shows only Corvette using spacers. It is in Group 3.650 Pulley-Spacer, Air Injection Reactor
