Decoding/Numbers / Re: Stamping Tool for VIN on Block & Trans
« on: March 28, 2013, 05:12:47 AM »
That car is very cool, I love it! Thanks very much for sharing it with us.
Is the interior all original? Just interested because there was a recent thread regarding grab handle colors in code 715 interior cars, and your handle appears to be black, same as mine.

Larry, that is a highly unusual color combination; I have a silver VN Z/28 with a 715 interior, but would love to see some pictures of your black on blue car if you're willing to post them!

Any info on tilt column diameter or hub part #s or actual diameter @ the column end of the #3937896 hub would be helpful. Thanks
I just measured an original 3937896 hub as follows:
Overall diameter at wheel side: 3+5/16" (or 84.5mm)
Overall diameter at column side: 4+1/8" (or 104mm)
Hope this helps.

Can you identify which hole the wiring comes through (if any) in the image below?

Now we are seeing good data!    Please show Nor. or Van.  with body production  and hood week.    Now lets keep the data coming!
The original hood on my 04A Van Nuys car is stamped '13'; although not requested in this thread, the quarters and trunk lid are stamped '12' and the roof reinforcement on the driver's side is '7'. Haven't checked the fenders or doors yet, where would the stamp likely be on those?

were flat hoods stamped as well?
Yes they were, on the driver's side rear corner - same as the picture posted earlier on page 1.

Here is my SS350 factory ZL-2. Probably very few made.
Does your car have a '270' ignition coil? Beautiful car, BTW!

I use a few hundreths of a gram less hardener than base at most and have had great results.
James,
Could you confirm which product you'd recommend for repairing cracks in an original VE3 bumper? I have had 3M Automix 05887 recommended to me, but noticed a reply on page 1 of this thread that mentioned 05883.
Cheers, Tim

Restoration / Window Crank Knob Color
« on: November 03, 2012, 05:22:49 AM »
Original GM clear knob window crank handles, including the ones in my car, all seem to be yellow-ish, like the one in the picture below. The reproduction handles with clear knobs are quite different, er, clear, just like the description.
So is the yellowing of originals due to age, UV exposure etc, or am I missing something? Even the supposed NOS handles that I've seen (even those still in their boxes) appear to be yellow.

Restoration / Re: Urethane Repair Product for VE3 Special Front Bumper
« on: October 12, 2012, 04:42:03 AM »
See the post(s) in General Discussion "Reproduction Endura bumpers are horrible" - unfortunately, GM discontinued the repair kits you will see pics posted of, but there is a guy out there doing repair work that looks to be a really decent deal.
Yep, I saw that thread, and have previously seen how bad the repro bumpers fit.
Unfortunately, based on my location, it's too costly to ship my VE3 back to the States for restoration, so I am quite prepared to do it myself. But because of the time it will take me, I'd really like to hear first from someone who has already done this, so I know I'm using a suitable product for the repairs. Failing that, I'll take my chances with the 3M Automix, and let you guys know via this forum how it works out!

Restoration / Urethane Repair Product for VE3 Special Front Bumper
« on: October 10, 2012, 07:59:38 AM »
Can anyone recommend a product to repair a VE3 Special Front Bumper (often referred to as Endura Bumper)?
In researching this, came across a recommendation for 3M Automix 5887 Plastic Repair, which is a 2-part epoxy product, but the TDS states it is for use on plastic parts (such as modern bumper covers and other plastic trim parts).
Any help or advice much appreciated.
