General Discussion / Re: adjustable fuel gauge module?
« on: November 24, 2015, 09:26:32 AM »
M&H Electric manufactures a couple of user-adjustable modules that allow you to dial in the warning light trigger point to suit the tank level at which you want to be warned. M&H's website (www.wiringharness.com) is not great from a user friendly point of view, but you can search by make, model and year and then scroll down the list to see the modules.
Here's a picture of the module I'll be getting in the near future, M&H part # 37651. This is for cars with console gauges (to replace the factory module), like the OP requested, but for those without, I believe they make a generic module to suit standard in-dash fuel gauges (part # 500274); but suggest anyone interested check direct with M&H.

Here's the console gauge version 37651

And the generic version 500274

If you mean the steel bracket, mine was MIA and I got one from a parts car to spotweld back in place. Have never seen them repro'd.

Don't see too many that color.
BY accounted for 1% of 1969 Camaros, according to CRG color estimates. Probably not a popular color for a Z, but a really nice color especially IMO with a black vinyl roof.

Ok, if you can't get a picture, what about the underside details? Might help to date it. There were (IIRC) 3 styles of deck lid used during the 69 model year, the first was the 68 style carried over, the second type had 'tabs' along the rear seam on the underside, and the third didn't. Another change included addition of the holes necessary to mount Trans Am spoilers on Firebirds, I can't remember exactly when that happened but around March 69 rings a bell. My April car has the 3rd design.
There's a great thread here, I'll find it and post the URL.

EDIT: Here's a couple of good threads with pictures:

Can you get a close-up picture of it? Every deck lid I've looked at over recent years has had a 'T' prefix stamp, but that's a minute selection of production. For comparison, my car is an 04A build and the trunk lid is dated 12th week, as is most all of the sheetmetal. I'd think a late May car would be somewhere around week 19-21 but just a guesstimate.

Interesting dates - ordered March 4, built April 21, sold May 22.
Dealer Order Form looks like it's dated March 4 68.
Wouldn't be the first time someone wrote the date wrong, but in the 3rd month of the year?

Restoration / Re: Kick panel vent door seals ???

Dave - can't answer your question on the repros but you may be able to find something suitable in the hardware store, in the self-adhesive door/window strip seal section. Fitting the curves might not work, but I've been surprised how many times I've been able to repurpose something from the hardware store to work well on previous vehicles - after exhausting all other options!

What a cool car.   Convertible 6 cyl 4 speed.
That's a Saginaw 3-speed.
Interesting that the engine assembly date is so much earlier than the rest of the drivetrain, and (obviously) the car itself.

Sounds like it might be an LA-built car, if there's no chalk/crayon on the rear seat bulkhead and no PBT firewall inspection stamps. Perhaps you could post a picture of the trim tag when you get the car back from paint jail?
BTW, it'd be great if you could add your name or nickname to your profile, so we can address you properly!

Originality / Detail Picture Request - 69 U26 Underhood Lamp
« on: November 15, 2015, 09:39:02 AM »
I searched here and over at TC but couldn't find an answer.
I'm looking for detailed pictures of a known original 1969 RPO U26 underhood lamp (assembly 3916764 as per AIM U26 A1). I'm specifically interested in the housing dimensions, if the back of the reflector is solid or has a hole in it, and if the 2 mounting holes are both round, slotted, or one of each. As the lamp should attach to the existing holes in the hood, I suspect the holes in the lamp wouldn't need the tolerance of slots, but you never know.
Any help would be much appreciated, there are many different styles available out there, each similar but subtly different and (of course) everyone insists the one they're selling is 100% correct.....

Aren't those holes just forward of the air cleaner also for insulation retainer clips? I have a resto note saying there should be 19 or 20 clips used, although I can't recall the source of that info.....
