Site Comments/Discussion / CRG Decoder Program
« on: December 02, 2014, 10:02:37 AM »
Question for the CRG core members:
Is the email address listed on the public decoder program (the request to email the decoded txt file to 'CamaroDan@juno.com') still active?

Originality / Hose Clamps
« on: November 23, 2014, 03:27:22 AM »
Looking into tracking down some original tower-style hose clamps. There seems to be many sizes available (no doubt manufactured for numerous other makes/models), but as these aren't cheap, don't want to get the wrong ones. Is the clamp size specified to suit the hose that they secure, or the maximum opening size of the clamp?
Anyone know the size for heater hoses (I believe there are 2 sizes) and upper and lower radiator hoses for a 1969 small block? (Not putting smog back on).
As far as I can tell, Wittek clamps were dated by quarter, so there would only be 4 date codes per calendar year.
Thanks for any help!

Decoding/Numbers / Body Stamping Plants
« on: November 01, 2014, 10:21:52 AM »
For the major body components assembled by Fisher, how many body stamping plants are known of, and are the actual plant locations known by the first letter of the run number? For example, most of the stampings on my car are 'T' and 'H', but I have also seen 'K'. Curious if each panel came from only one plant, and if not, did Norwood and Van Nuys have separate sources?

Decoding/Numbers / Flasher Units for 1969
« on: September 24, 2014, 08:30:31 AM »
Are the correct turn signal and 4-way flasher units for a 1969 non-RS the Tung-Sol 552 and Signal-Stat 175?
(For those that also frequent Team Camaro, I did post the same Q there, but this may be more appropriate here).

Originality / Length of J-bolt for spare in trunk
« on: June 14, 2014, 02:23:23 AM »
Could someone with a 69 Z please confirm the finish, correct overall length, and thread length, of the original factory J-bolt hook that is used to hold down the 15" spare in the trunk?
Thanks in advance for any help.

Originality / Zinc Anode Clips
« on: June 01, 2014, 12:08:16 AM »
The 1969 Fisher Body Service Manual indicates that sacrificial zinc anode clips were originally installed in the rear window channels on Camaros (not convertibles). See Section 17, pages 5 and 6. In my work, we employ catholic protection on major highway bridges to reduce internal steel corrosion, so I am familiar with the concept. However, I cannot see that the anode clips would be very effective in this Camaro application. Cannot think of one owner who has routinely replaced clips as they corrode, nor anyone who has installed them during restoration. Anyone know otherwise?

Restoration / kph speedometer
« on: May 27, 2014, 10:02:19 PM »
Can anyone recommend an instrument/gauge restorer that they have personal experience of? I have a 200kph speedo from a 69 and it is in need of cosmetic restoration, obviously don't want to mess it up.....
Not looking for anyone locally, would far rather ship the gauge back to the USA for professional service by the right person.

General Discussion / Dealer versus Customer Order
« on: May 17, 2014, 06:36:00 AM »
Thanks to NCRS shipping info, I have confirmation that my car was delivered to a dealer only around 20 miles from the final assembly point. From the paperwork I got from the original owner, that car was first registered around 10 weeks after the official production date. I was told at the time of purchase that the car was bought off the dealer's floor stock, but am curious as to how common it was for a dealer to order stock without a customer order, especially as in this case, the car sat for ~2 months before purchase.
Suppose it could have been a demo?

Decoding/Numbers / Glass Codes
« on: April 29, 2014, 09:23:26 AM »
If you went to your local Chevy dealer in the late 60's or early 70's to buy a replacement for a broken or damaged piece of Camaro glass, would it have had the same markings as factory-fitted LOF or PPG glass, including a date code?

Decoding/Numbers / 1967 12-bolt
« on: March 18, 2014, 09:44:29 AM »
Have come across a mono-leaf 12-bolt with the following details:
Cast date L66 (December 6, 1966)
Axle code QL1229G (3.31 ratio, non-posi, December 29 assembly)
It has the radius rod bracket on the passenger side.
Now I should point out, am not familiar with 67's, but a bit of research indicates this would've been fitted to either an SS (L35, L48 or L78) or a Z/28.
Without a corresponding car, obviously no way to say for sure which of the above it actually was from, but based on the original ratio (3.31 open), could any of the above RPOs be ruled out, or deemed less likely than others?

Decoding/Numbers / 302s and CE Blocks
« on: March 06, 2014, 10:46:04 AM »
Although only Flint supplied production 302 blocks, could a 302 that was replaced under warranty be either a Flint or a Tonawanda block, or only Flint? I've re-read the CRG article on warranty engines, which indicates that CE V8 blocks came from both plants, but unsure if one did SB and the other BB blocks. I've never seen a Tonawanda CE small block myself (though by itself that means nothing), but have seen several Tonawanda CE big blocks.

Decoding/Numbers / Van Nuys Hidden Partial VIN
« on: February 19, 2014, 10:15:11 AM »
Any members here have a Van Nuys-built '69 with original firewall, that does not have a hidden partial VIN stamp near the heater blower motor hole?

Decoding/Numbers / Headlight Switch
« on: January 25, 2014, 11:27:02 AM »
I have 2 headlight switches, one has 175 and the other has 173 on it. Can't say which one was originally on the car, which is a non-RS with factory console gauges. Research here indicates that 1995173 is correct for this application, but the AIM doesn't appear to call up this with RPO U17. The AIM does however specify different part numbers for console/non-console RS cars under RPO Z22. The earliest documentation I could find 1995173 in is the 1972 P&A catalog.
I'm going to use the 173 switch, based on research and advice here, but can anyone confirm if it is an assembly line correct part #?
